REST between sets .. whatโs optimal ?
This depends on your ๐ฅ
goal
The time you rest between sets is an important variable in workout configuration.
If your main goal is gains in strength , then 2 minutes or more is not only ok , but necessary.
Thereโs a lot to think about and take into consideration .
How intense was the set, how fatigued are you and whatโs your nutrition like ?
Your age , are you working out in the heat, are there injuries involved ?
If your main goal is hypertrophy or fat loss then you can decrease your rest time in between sets.
If the main goal is muscular endurance and conditioning, then very little, if any is needed between your sets .
Pleasure is a false god. Research shows that people who focus their energy on superficial pleasures end up more anxious, more emotionally unstable , and more depressed . Pleasure is the most superficial form of life satisfaction and therefore the easiest to obtain and the easiest to lose .

My favorite had always been high reps on the leg extension machine with a slow tempo , long pause at the top (time under tension) short rest periods , for maximum pump & with light weight has always worked best for me .
Legs ๐ฆต once per week because the intensity level .
Joints and connective tissue need 6 days to fully recover after a strenuous leg workout .

How to develop PERSISTENCE:

Concentric : The muscular force results in the length of the muscle decreasing . ( the bicep ๐ช๐ฝ muscle as itโs contracting when you flex)
Eccentric : the muscular force applied when the length of the muscle increases . (As you lower the weight back down to your hip on a bicep curl , or as your squatting down on a barbell squat and the hamstrings , quads and glutes begin to lengthen and stretch )
Isometric : The muscular force keeps the length of the muscle the same ( doing lateral raises and pausing at the top for a 5 second hold before lowering the weight back down .
Three ways to bring the intensity up during your workout . ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ you can go for slow eccentric movements , and/or faster concentric movements , with a longer isometric hold at the top of the contraction .
Hereโs a few of many different ways (changing the tempo) to change up the pace of your workout ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ try this the next time you step into the gym .
