The Traveling Quilters
The Traveling Quilters is a tour service for quilters based in Southern California. We offer day trips to quilt shows, weekend retreats and longer trips.
Such a beautiful quilt top Donna McAuley finished at our recent Temecula Quilt-Away Retreat.
Happy First Day of Summer!!!
How are your summer quilt projects coming along?
Remembering the Fathers in our lives today.
Happy Flag Day. Long wave the red, white, and blue.
Jenny Doan shared her quilt version of the flag when we visited Missouri Star in 2019.
Here is proof that quilts worked on at our Temecula Quilt/Away Retreats do get completed 😉.
Lynn has donated this quilt to the "Molly and Friends" fundraiser for Rover Ranger Rescue in Wrightwood. It will be auctioned at the Pine Needles Quilt Guild annual auction at Mountaineer Days on Saturday, July 6th. The auction starts at
1:00 pm at the Vivian Null Park Gazebo next to the Wrightwood Community Center. Proceeds from this quilt - and others donated for this great cause - will help rescue dogs find a new home.
Mark your calendars for our next Temecula Quilt-Away Retreat: September 5-8, 2024

The Traveling Quilters | Manhattan Beach, California For the past 25 years, we've provided a unique tour service for quilters in Southern California. Yearly quilting adventures to quilt festivals and quilt shows all over the United States.
We just completed another one of our fabulous quilt retreats, held in Temecula, CA. They always provide dedicated time to get caught up on friendships (old and new), to eat yummy food, and of course, to work on quilts 😍
Pam was able to finish this quilt top.
Are you celebrating with tacos today? Do you prefer chicken or beef? Hard shell or soft shell?
Are you a Fabriholic too? 😬
When we’re not busy planning our fun Temecula Quilt Retreats or cool Quilting Adventure Trips, we like to share what we have learned about quilting with others. Earlier this month, Pam taught a binding workshop for the Pine Needles Quilt Guild. There were 10 attendees and everyone agreed that they “learned a lot!!”
How do you share your quilting experience?
"Frogmore" by Zena Thorpe won for the "Large" category at the International Quilt Association in 1994.
The International Quilt Association is celebrating 50 years this coming November.
Today, April 10th, is National Siblings Day. How many siblings do you have? Are any of them quilters?
At one of our past Temecula Quilt Retreats, we had two sets of sisters attend:
Betty Jo came from Minnesota "to assist" her sister, Joy, with her quilting. Betty Jo didn't quilt, but she did knit slippers. She said she made about 50 pairs a year to give to friends.
The other pair of sisters (well, actually sister-in-laws) who attended this retreat were Dr. Carley Ward and Diane Ward. Carley was a Bio-Mechanical Engineer who started quilting as a young child. She commented that her engineering skills come in handy with her quilting skills. Diane began quilting in 1989 and said she "really liked the challenge of quilting."
The International Quilt Show is celebrating 50 years in November. They are gearing up for their big celebration by featuring some of the past award winning quilts. This quilt was the 1984 Winner in the Artisan category, "Techy Crimes," by Nancy Pearson.
What do you notice in the difference of quilt styles from then to now, 40 years later?
Happy April!! Here’s to a new month of “making things.”
I enjoy making placemats from my quilting fabrics - I need to get the stash down somehow! Although there is snow on the ground in Wrightwood (and on the roofs!), I am ready for Spring!
Wishing you a lovely day.
Can you relate?
Do you include stops at quilt stores when you go on a trip? Recently, Pam Overton, one of the Traveling Quilters owners, went on a Girls weekend in Cayucos. Three of the five women on the trip are quilters, so their Saturday activities included a trip to Dora Cary’s shop in Paso Robles, Orange Dot Quilts.❤️ Orange Dot Quilts
We don’t just quilt at our Temecula Quilt Away Retreats. There’s all kinds of creativity going on!!
At our retreat in February, Joelle Thiermann was showing Mary Worley how to use water color paints. Mercy Garcia also joined in the fun.
We’d love to have you bring all your creative talents and join us at our next Temecula Quilt Away Retreat, April 22-25. For details and registration, visit our website: www.travelingquilters.com
Happy First Day of Spring!! This patio in Córdoba, Spain, exudes springtime. Do you have the patience to maintain such a beautiful spot?
Do you make quilts for charitable causes?
Lynn Crawford, one of the Traveling Quilters owners, worked on these blocks at our Quilt Retreat in February. She is putting together a charity quilt for a fundraiser to benefit a local dog rescue group.
Why not bring your donation quilt project (or any other quilt project you’re working on) to our next Temecula Quilt Away Retreat, April 22-25? For details and registration, visit our website: www.travelingquilters.com
