The IAFN Foundation is partnering with nurses in Uganda to ensure that every patient who has experienced violence receives trauma-informed healthcare and has increased access to justice.

Violence is pervasive globally and has a lasting, devastating impact on individuals and communities. In a study conducted by the Ugandan government, 95 percent of women reported experiencing physical or sexual violence, or both, since the age of 15. However, the current system of care is not meeting survivors’ needs.

IAFN has been asked to support the integration of forensic nursing in Uganda, but we can't do it alone. Will you join us in ensuring that all survivors in Uganda have access to forensic nursing care?

This is a project of the Virginia Lynch Forensic Nursing Endowment. Your contribution to the Endowment will allow IAFN to create a roadmap that will forge a different future for survivors in Uganda.

Happy International Self-Care Day! 💙 We keep on celebrating the incredible forensic nurses who work tirelessly to support victims of violence worldwide.

One specific study in multiple states found 67% of SANEs to be at risk for experiencing burnout, given their occupational stressors.
(Source: S. Zelman et al, Journal of Emergency Nursing 2022, Burnout and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner: Who Is Experiencing Burnout and Why?)

Experts fear the increase in forensic nurse burnout may impact forensic nurse turnover, thus negatively impacting the care provided to sexual assault and abuse survivors.

Swipe through to learn about the importance of self-care in forensic nursing and how we can all support these amazing professionals. 💙
