I’m back! 🥰

Baby Ivey is 3 months old and I am officially done with maternity leave. Who am I kidding, I still took clients in the last 3 months, I just slowed down instead of stopped. But if these last 3 months have reminded me of anything, it’s been that the postpartum struggle is REAL. My empathy for all of you struggling with sleep has been reignited by my own sleep deprivation. I am so happy to be back to sharing sleep tips with you all! As always, don’t hesitate to send me a message or leave a comment with any questions you may have!

16/11/2023

The time has come! I am scheduled to deliver baby Ivey in just a few days, so I am officially on leave now. Not sure exactly how long I’m going to give myself, as I hate turning away moms in need and I’ve already had to do that. So most likely, I’ll be back before you know it. But for now, please keep us in your thoughts for a healthy and safe delivery and a smooth transition into being a family of 4 💖

06/09/2023

😂🤰🏻

All jokes aside, I am putting this reminder out there because we are at the time of year where older kids are back in school and there is generally a rush of parents contacting me, wanting to tackle sleep training for their little ones ahead of the holiday season. I have already started getting an influx of requests for consultation bookings (which I am thrilled about), but please keep in mind that I will be taking fewer overlapping clients the closer I get to maternity leave. The sooner you book me, the better! If you are struggling with sleep, I am here, I am taking new clients still, but only for a limited time. Please reach out to schedule your free consultation!

I have to remind myself of this quite often...

❗Self care is not selfish❗Fill your cup mama, fill it up and don't let that guilty feeling seep in and rob you of what you deserve.

Self care can look different for different people. I consider working out each morning to be my self care, I depend on it to help me work through my feelings, give me alone time, and flood my system with endorphins. I'm addicted. I have also recently started getting a facial once a month, which still feels "selfish" but I'm trying to allow myself to get used to it.

What does self care look like for you? Share below! ❤️

Here are some common reasons why babies may awaken during the night and what parents can do to help 👇

🍼Hunger
One of the most common reasons babies wake up at night is because they are hungry. Newborns and young infants typically need to eat every two to three hours during the day and night.

💩Discomfort
Babies can also be awakened by physical discomfort, such as a dirty diaper or clothes that are too tight. Making sure your baby is comfortable and properly dressed for bed can help reduce nighttime awakenings.

🦷Developmental Changes
As babies grow and develop, they may experience sleep regression or changes in their sleep patterns. This is a normal part of development, but can be frustrating for parents. Encouraging a consistent sleep routine and maintaining a sleep-friendly environment can help minimize disruptions.

⚡Over-stimulation
Babies can be easily over-stimulated by sounds, lights, or activity, which can cause them to wake up during the night. Parents can help create a calm and relaxing bedtime routine, as well as reducing stimulation before bedtime.

🤱Sleep Associations
Certain sleep associations, such as rocking or nursing to sleep, can make it difficult for babies to fall asleep on their own and may cause them to wake up during the night.

With understanding and patience, parents can help their baby get the rest they need ❤

🌙 The safest places for babies to sleep are cribs, bassinets, and bedside sleepers that are designed for infant sleep and meet federal safety standards.

However, sometimes, a baby who previously slept well in a crib will start to resist sleep or wake up more frequently during the night. Sleep regressions happen frequently in the first two years of life and usually only last for a short time. 💤

🗣️Announcement!!

I have been thinking and thinking of ways to expand my offerings so that I can help more families. This business is just me: I’m the only one taking consult calls, managing the intake process, writing the sleep plans, and coaching parents through the process. It takes time and focus, and for those reasons, I can only work with so many clients at the same time. But! I have decided to start offering a “Plan-only” package that includes a fully customized sleep plan, without the coaching and followup support. I’ve had many families reach out to me asking if I offer this, and to be honest, I’ve always been kind of against it because I feel like the coaching is SO important. However, I totally understand that not everyone wants it, and therefore, the “Plan-Only” package is born! This is a great way for me to help more families and also offer a more budget friendly option for those who may want it.

I still fully believe in the importance of the coaching, it really is the secret sauce. But if that’s not for you, that’s okay too!

I am so excited to be at a place where I am expanding my offerings. I truly love what I do and I look forward to helping more families! 💛

😭As a parent, one of the most challenging aspects of caring for a baby is interpreting their cries. Understanding the meaning behind different types of cries can help parents respond appropriately and address their baby's needs. Here are some different types of baby cries 👇

🍼Hunger cry
This cry is usually characterized by a high-pitched, continuous sound and can indicate that a baby is in need of feeding.

😣Discomfort cry
This cry can indicate that a baby is uncomfortable or in pain and can be caused by a variety of things, such as a dirty diaper or tight clothing.

😔Tired cry
Common cry related to sleep. This cry can indicate that a baby is exhausted and in need of a nap or bedtime.

💤Crying to sleep
This is actually a normal process for some babies, as they may need to release some tension or emotions before falling asleep. It's also important to keep in mind that crying is a normal process for babies and that all babies cry differently.

✨Understanding the meaning behind different cries is especially important when it comes to sleep, as babies may cry for a variety of reasons related to their sleep patterns.

Say goodbye to sleepless nights and hello to peaceful nights for you and your baby 💕

Introducing Solid Foods and How It Affects Sleep 🥗

If you have a baby between 5-6 months of age, chances are you are getting ready to explore the exciting world of solids! This is an exciting milestone for parents, but may have you wondering how it can affect the sleep of your child. Here are a few scenarios to explore, and a few tips to help save you and your baby some frustration and discomfort along the way.

Also, if you child is at this age and not yet showing interest in solids, that’s okay, too! Not every baby is ready at the same time. My own daughter was very late to show interest in solids, and she is an amazing eater now! They will get there in their own time, I promise. Don’t stress too much, just try to keep offering, keep exploring, and do your best to enjoy the process.

Part 2: The next 4 tips! 👇🏻

🔹 Alter your sleep schedule

Sleep regressions usually mean less sleep than normal, which leads to an overtired baby, which leads to crying and fussiness, which leads to less sleep, which leads to…you get the idea. It’s a vicious cycle!

Try to avoid an exhausted baby by altering daytime sleep schedules and trying an earlier bedtime to make up for sleep lost at night.

🔹 Give them the fuel they need

Don’t be afraid to give your baby those extra feedings if they are asking for them. The developmental changes and growth spurts that your baby often experiences during a sleep regression will usually increase their appetite.

🔹 Ask for and accept help

While you do your best to take care of your baby during sleep regressions, remember to take care of yourself too. Sleep regression for babies often leads to sleep deprivation for parents - if your baby can't fall asleep, neither can you.

If you’re able to, take shifts with your partner. Call on friends and family to take over for a bit so you can get some rest. And when someone offers to give you a hand, do yourself a favor and take it!

🔹 Seek Experienced Support

Talk to a mom who’s been through it before – create a support group. It helps to know others that have gone through a baby sleep regression and know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Need a few more tips on how to sleep-train your baby? 😃 Follow my page for more info!

Here are my first 4 tips to help you survive sleep regressions 👇

🔹Be flexible with their temporary sleep patterns

Sleep regressions will more than likely put a stop to your normal nap schedule and bedtime routine. For the time being, you’ll need to adjust.

🔹 Try to Keep Routines Consistent

Even though sleep regressions are bound to mess up your usual schedule, you should try to keep up with performing your soothing bedtime routine before sleep. It may not happen when it normally does, but at a time when your baby is experiencing and learning new things, it helps to keep some things familiar.

🔹 Keep a calming routine and environment

Try adding a soothing massage, bath, swaddling, or storytime to your bedtime routine to keep your baby relaxed.

🔹 Comfort them but avoid creating bad habits

It’s okay to give those extra snuggles and spend a few extra minutes rocking your baby. Do what you can to offer comfort, but try to limit this contact and place them in their sleep environment again.

Take care not to revert back to habits you’ve already broken and don't create new habits! Avoid regularly rocking or nursing your baby to sleep to be sure they don’t form any sleep associations that may also worsen separation anxiety.

❗️Stay tuned for part 2 ❗️

About Me

My name is Cynthia and I am a mother of one and a Certified Child Sleep Specialist. My sleep education journey began when my daughter, Olive, was about 3 months old. She was a reflux baby who had a lot of issues sleeping as well as other specific circumstances that were unique to her. She was difficult to settle and didn’t stay asleep long without crying out for her pacifier. Some nights I would wake up 15+ times just to go pop her paci back in her mouth for her. I was beyond exhausted. I tried reading all the info online and all the books that my friends and mommy-group acquaintances recommended. But it got to the point where I felt like I actually had too much information. Where was I to start? Which method would work best for myself and Olive? I just wanted someone who knew my specific circumstances to tell me exactly what to do. After deciding to hire a sleep consultant, my life changed. I was getting more sleep, as was my husband and most importantly, Olive. She became a new baby- so happy and engaged, instead of irritable and tired. It was then that I decided this gift of sleep is one that I needed to learn and be able to share with other families.
