I was glad I was big. When I enlisted in the Marine Corps we had to take a lot of tests. I did well on mine and that with my being a college level senior before got me placed as a squad leader. But I was big too. Six three and worked summers on our farm and in a cotton gin. I could stand up 800 pound cotton bales. So. Being the Marine Corps I got challenged a lot including physically. One of my privates jumped on my back just for mischief and I swatted him down like a mosquito. I was glad he did it to let anyone else know go ahead, give it a shot and see what happens. Another in my squad challenged an order by me and threatened to hit me with his rifle butt. I just walked over and took it away and that was that. It mattered. Things got competitive and it helped your cause. Plus I trusted my judgment better than theirs. If brute force was all anyone had to run things then it could easily be a Neanderthal environment. But I had a high IQ and a lot of college education too and intended to use what it took to get things done. All these years later it still seems the way to handle things if that’s what it takes. Any form of power can be abused so you best deal wisely. But stand up to the situation and deal with it with the means at hand. I adored the challenge.

Happy 247th birthday USMC. Among my proudest days to have joined the Marines. Semper Fidelis. Always Faithful.

Still in contact with my Danish friend I met in Israel long ago. I adore reconnecting previous precious memories. I saw her again after Israel in Denmark and then in Boston years later. We both had artistic dreams and both pursued them. She is so supportive and proud of me that I never gave up my dream. It adds so much to my life to experience such as her.

Astros are World Champs for first unscandalized time . In the process Verlander gets his first WS victory ever at age 39, and Dusty Baker managed his first WS championship team after being a coach for 25 years. First Black manager also of a WS championship team. Heartwarming to see all this. And Jeremy Peña first rookie mvp of series I think they said.

Dusty Baker: -winning manager.

Just read an article on Sylvester Stallone where in the beginning trying to make it as an actor he was turned down in a crowd scene as an extra in the wedding in the movie The Godfather. How discouraged he was. He said no one looked more Italian than me and I can’t even make it as an extra. Guess we all have such memories of something. Persistence pays off . Unless even that fails sometimes.

Going to bed early. Gotta get up and go to Baytown. First book signing in two months because of my foot. Still wearing my special boot. But it will be a conversation piece. But swelling is finally down so I should be ok. Back to my dreams ya know
