is with a heavy heart that I share some difficult news regarding the spouse of one of our cherished educators, 8th-grade teacher Amanda Petrofsky. After a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer, Amanda’s husband, Chad, has been moved to hospice care. Chad was diagnosed last year with neuroendocrine cancer, just days after their youngest, Avery, was born. He has fought the good fight and is currently resting in his final days at Hospice House of Kansas City. Chad is only 33 years old.
Amanda and Chad have three children. Leo is in first grade, Cooper is in PreK 4, and Avery is 18 months old.
At this time, Amanda is surrounded by a large and supportive family providing her with the care and support she needs during this challenging period. If your family would like to send them cards of support, you may drop them off at the school office, and we will make sure they get them.
The school has received numerous questions on how people can help out. So Lauren Cody, 8th-grade mom and coordinator, has set up a GoFundMe campaign for her family. Your contributions will go a long way in easing their burden and showing our collective support and solidarity. The link is below.

The question is, will she continue to cheer for the Lions?
Hey, my name is Abby Phillips! I am so excited to be working at Cure of Ars as a first-grade teacher! I am from Kingwood, Texas in the Houston area and graduated from Texas Tech University(Wreck Em’)! I am moving to Kansas City to be closer to my older sister and am so excited for this new chapter and continuing my journey as a first-grade teacher. I grew up attending a catholic elementary and middle school in my local community, which I ended up having the honor to teach first grade for the year of 23-24. I understand the importance and impact it has had on my faith, and I am excited to have and share that impact on my students in their journeys becoming closer to God. Outside of working I am strong in my catholic faith and enjoy outdoors, fitness and singing!
I am a graduate of the Cure of Ars class of 2016. I was on the cross country and track team at Cure. I love serving in a Catholic School environment, working with students and teachers with all subjects and needs, fostering my faith through my work, and building relationships within the school community of students and teachers. I will be working as a resource aide this coming school year and look forward to assisting students and teachers with whatever they need to develop their strengths and help them feel more confident in the classroom while helping build relationships. My goal is to make learning enjoyable, joyful, and rewarding for students through my support for their specific needs and providing a comfortable, relaxing, and supportive environment for all students to express their talents in a way that builds their confidence and understanding while providing any supports that teachers need to help themselves teach to the best of their ability and help their students develop their skills and succeed. I am thrilled to be a part of the Cure resource team and come back to my Alma matter as a staff member!
I am excited to join the Curé community. I have taught for over ten years, most recently as a third-grade teacher in Northern California. Although I come to Curé from out of state, I was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Furthermore, I used to be a parishioner of St. Thomas More. I received my Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Northridge, and a Master’s from Antioch University Los Angeles. I have been married to my amazing wife, Jennifer, for twenty-two years. We have two wonderful children, Jocelyn (20) and Justin (18). In my spare time, I love to read, watch classic films, and spend time with family and friends
My name is Caroline Ehlert. I am from Saint Joseph, Missouri, where I attended Catholic schools K-12. Local author Jenn Bailey visited our school recently to share with K-3 students about her writing process and her books. One of her characters is on the autism spectrum, and she shared about how some kids experience the world differently, and how we can be good friends to them. It was a great presentation to help our students grow! Thank you to our .of.ars.pto for sponsoring a portion of this speaker through their CASE grant!

Our Story
The History of Cure’
Cure of Ars Catholic School opened in September 1961 with eight grades. By the fall of 1962, the enrollment was up to 600 students, and at the end of the second year, the first grade was discontinued. A second wing was added to the school in 1968 and at that time the first grade was reinstated and a kindergarten was added. A preschool became part of the educational program beginning with the 1978-79 school year. A new church was dedicated in March 1979. The original church became the Father Kelly Center, adding a sports and activity facility to the school and parish.
In 1998, a third wing containing 8 classrooms, a library/media center and a science laboratory was constructed. In addition, major renovation of the existing building took place. Classrooms were outfitted with new cabinetry, lighting, technology upgrades and air conditioning. The enrollment had grown to over 690 students as we began the new millennium.
Cure of Ars Parish and School received its name from Archbishop Hunkeler. Cure is a French name meaning priest or pastor, and Ars is the name of a small village in France. The Cure of Ars was a young priest by the name of John Vianney. He was the son of a peasant farmer and found learning very difficult. However, because of his deep devotion to the Mother of God and his evident piety, he was admitted to the priesthood and was ordained on August 6, 1815. In 1817, John Vianney was sent to Ars. There was plenty of problems in this small village and the new pastor saw that his work would be slow and painful. From the very start, though, God seemed to be with him and miracles became a common occurrence in Father Vianney`s life. The people soon realized that they had a saint in their midst. The Cure became known as a great confessor and people came from all over Europe to tell their sins to him and to receive counsel. John Vianney died on July 29, 1859, and was honored as a saint from the day he died. The Church declared him a saint in 1925. The things he did and the life he led are so strange to us that he might be called the saint of the impossible, but to him these things were not strange. They were just what might be expected by anyone who believed in God, loved Him, and was willing to do and suffer all things in serving Him.
