Longtime civil engineer Torry Hurt, PE, CFM, has joined our San Antonio team to help grow TTL’s civil engineering services throughout Texas. Torry is a San Antonio native who graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio and is likewise invested in the positive change and growth of his community.

Torry brings the value of a dual perspective having worked on both the public and private side including City of San Antonio Public Works Department for the Stormwater Division, CPS Energy, and LJA. He is a certified floodplain manager with experience in FEMA floodplain reclamation to include the CLOMR/LOMR process.

Torry’s work has helped build subdivisions and redraw FEMA flood maps, and now his experience will help foster a new generation of engineers.

We’re grateful Torry has joined TTL and look forward to all the Texas-sized benefits his knowledge will bring.

Welcome to the team!

TTL professionals were called on to solve multiple geotechnical challenges for the new Bexar County Public Works Building and Purple Heart Monument in Texas.

For its basement to remain dry after construction, engineers had to account for subsoil conditions that carried a high potential for expansion.

Then, additional design work was needed once the newly completed building, parking, and drive lanes created limited access for traditional equipment. Our geotechnical engineering team assisted with the design of a robust retaining wall system for the 3.5-acre tract.

By overcoming subsurface difficulties and adapting designs for limited access, our team played a pivotal role in making this project a Texas-sized success.

Collaboration was key for the Rutherford County Judicial Center!

The Rutherford County Judicial Center, a significant addition to the county's infrastructure, encompasses courtrooms, judges' chambers, jury assembly areas, holding cells, an evidence vault, and sheriff’s offices. During construction, the site presented unforeseen challenges throughout the drilling process, requiring a reevaluation of the foundation approach.

After a thorough assessment of the site and soil conditions, TTL provided key recommendations to address the issues encountered.

The successful progression of this project can be attributed to the collaborative effort and expertise of the entire team involved.

Martin Luther King Jr. is one of our nation’s greatest examples of servant leadership.

He dedicated his life to the nonviolent struggle for civil rights in the US, playing a pivotal role in ending segregation for African Americans and the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He inspired individuals to fight for a cause they believed in, and his life shows how the extraordinary power of servant leadership can radically transform a nation.

Designed to be a hub for concerts, community events, and tourism, TTL conducted a geotechnical investigation of an old municipal landfill site on the banks of the Black Warrior River for the development of the 7,500-seat — and recently renamed — Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater.

The project also included construction materials engineering and testing for soils, deep foundations, concrete placement, and Special Inspections on concrete, masonry, and cold-formed framing, as well as welded and bolted structural steel connections.

A new pedestrian bridge now links West Tuscaloosa to a better and brighter future.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday for the $10.6 million River District Pedestrian Bridge that extends over Jack Warner Parkway, connecting Parker-Haun Park with the planned Saban Center that’s expected to open in 2026.

TTL was proud to provide civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and construction materials engineering and testing services for both the bridge and the park, which opened in October 2022.

“It’s all about safety,” said Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner during Tuesday’s ribbon cutting ceremony, “and this is a very proud moment for the city of Tuscaloosa.”

Rapid growth calls for wider roads!

What was once a rural, two-lane road is expanding to a four-lane urban roadway. The revamped Talley Road will feature two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, along with a median, curb, and sidewalk. This 2.3-mile project is expected to be complete this month.

TTL provided construction materials engineering and testing for these exciting transportation improvements in San Antonio.
