Trooper J.D. Ellis was the only member of the Patrol to lose his life while serving in the military during World War II. Trooper Ellis was appointed to the Patrol in 1935. On July 30, 1941, Trooper Ellis was granted a military leave of absence to join the U.S. Armed Forces. At that time, he was a captain, Field Artillery, 2nd Cavalry Division. Almost immediately, he was assigned to duty in the Philippines where he was wounded in the Battle of Bataan and taken prisoner by the Japanese Army. He died in a Japanese prisoner of war camp on October 16, 1942.
Today, we remember 139 of our coworkers lost in the line of duty.
May we never forget their sacrifice while serving the citizens of Missouri.

Be a sober captain.
Drinking and driving don't mix, regardless of whether it's a vehicle or a vessel you're operating. This Labor Day weekend, choose a sober operator. A drunk driving arrest could lead to fines, court costs, and a suspended license. You might be injured in a crash, or even worse, you could harm or ๐ธ๐ถ๐น๐น someone else.
In Missouri, 15 people died and 477 were injured in 1,058 traffic crashes over the 2023 Labor Day holiday.
