UPDATE ON STORM DAMAGE

Claremore, Okla. | May 26, 2024, 8:30 a.m. – On May 25, a tornado caused widespread damage in Claremore late Saturday night into Sunday. First responders are in the process of fully assessing the damage, which includes downed trees, power lines and damage to homes and buildings. As of 7 a.m., there were 23 storm-related injuries, 19 were transported to area hospitals, with three of those having possible life-threatening injuries. At this time, there are no confirmed reports of fatalities.

Additional updates

• The Red Cross has established a respite and resource center at Memorial Heights Baptist Church (1500 W. Will Rogers Blvd). Additionally, mobile units are delivering food and water, and cleanup kits (shovels, rakes, tarps, brooms to assist those affected). The public can call 800-Red-Cross to request services.

• Roads into Claremore will remain closed until noon as public responders assess the damage and secure any areas that pose safety risks. After noon, only residents with an I.D. will be allowed to enter the City until further notice.

• Power is out across the entire City of Claremore due to the impact on all four substations. Crews are onsite working to repair the damage.

• There is no fuel available in Claremore. Those who need fuel will need to access from surrounding cities.

“City and county officials are actively working rescue and repair operations and collaborating with local and state officials to address citizen’s needs,” said John Feary, Claremore City Manager and Dan Delozier, Rogers County Commissioner

Members of the emergency response team are currently assessing the damage, and we will share updates as they are available.
