(T&M) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of disabled people, especially disabled youth, by providing trained service dogs and ongoing support, as well as providing education on disabilities and service dogs in schools and to the general public. Soon after our president and head trainer's sister got a puppy seventeen years ago, she and her family realized that the dog began behaving very strangely prior to her focal seizures. At the time, she happened to live ten minutes from one of the only dog obedience schools in the country that worked with owner trainers. You go to service dog class once a week, and to obedience class once a week, and they train you to train your dog. She was hooked and went constantly: to puppy kindergarten, every level of obedience, agility, dog sports, started competition obedience, therapy work, flyball, canine freestyle, and became a CGC evaluator for AKC. It was basically a 13 year apprenticeship with the best dog trainers in the country. If she wasn't in a class she would just watch classes--watch people's timing, watch dog body language, watch mistakes--you can learn an incredible amount from other people's mistakes, because you are often making the same ones. When she moved to Florida she found that there just weren't many trainers down here of the same caliber as in Seattle, and certainly not many service dog trainers, so she decided to start her own non-profit service dog organization.
