Eliot Steer, PhD, is part of our treatment team here at SoHum, to support the emotional responses and releases these practices can evoke. Just as physical toxins (ama) leave the body during panchakarma, these practices can offer an emotional release - allowing for the movement of trapped feelings, supporting the healing of psychological wounds.

In this webinar we will explore:
✨How emotional health is also supported by Panchakarma and other Ayurvedic treatments
✨Why emotions, especially those involved with traumatic events, get trapped in the body and when a physical release occurs, an emotional one can follow
✨How emotions have a native home in our body, and how we can utilize certain treatments to support the release and balancing of these emotions
✨The support Dr. Eliot Steer provides to our guests at SoHum Mountain Healing Resort as a Vedic counselor and how he can support the cleansing of the emotional self

Happy Navratri🙏
The nine nights of Navratri offer an exploration of the divine feminine. At its heart lies the worship of Goddess Durga, who manifests in nine distinct forms, each representing a facet of femininity.
The divine feminine is the feminine aspect of the divine power that connects and binds the Earth. She is the goddess energy (i.e. Shakti) that exists within all of us. Shakti is a term commonly used in Hinduism to refer to divine feminine energy. Navratri is the time to harness this feminine energy that is often associated with fertility, creativity, and intuition. It is the time to tap into Shakti that can help heal the mind, body, and soul of women.

Vishuddha
The Throat Chakra
The throat chakra is linked to self-expression, communication, and authenticity. It serves as a focal point for bringing forth your inner voice, allowing others to listen and engage with your thoughts, emotions, and knowledge. The thyroid gland is placed near the throat chakra. In Ayurveda, the thyroid gland is considered a vital energy center in the body, responsible for regulating metabolism and maintaining overall balance.
Vishuddha revolves around the idea of being acknowledged and openly conveying oneself. It entails connecting with your genuine inner voice and permitting it to radiate into the world. Your most profound aspirations, thoughts, and truths possess the potential to uplift and revolutionize the world.
A blocked throat chakra may create thyroid issues. The thyroid is viewed as intimately linked to our emotional well-being, particularly the emotion of guilt. Ayurveda believes that guilt can lead to an excess of Kapha dosha, which can slow down the metabolism and disrupt thyroid function.
When there's an imbalance or blockage in the energy of the Vishuddha Chakra, it disrupts communication. We become resistant to listening to our inner selves and others, which in turn affects our internal and external relationships. This obstruction can have a multitude of impacts on our emotional and physical well-being.
Uncover the secrets of the heart, lungs, liver, and thyroid's resonance with emotions! This fall Vaidya Vasant Lad will offer 5 webinar sessions that dive deep into the emotions. To register, please visit the link in our bio.

Join us LIVE from the AyurPrana Listening Room in Asheville, NC - in-person or online - as we explore practical techniques drawn from Vasant Lad’s 50+ years of clinical experience as he offers methods to release stagnant emotions and promote healing from trauma.
According to Ayurveda, when psychological memories are unreleased, they remain in our physical being - creating fear, anxiety, anger, grief, and unhealthy cravings that adversely affect our overall physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Topics Vasant Lad will explore:
⭐Perception: Understand how the individual mind is connected to the universal mind and how that impacts our perception
⭐Functioning: Explore the inner workings of the mind according to Ayurveda, including an introduction to the concept of the “Antaḥkaraṇa” or inner equipment of experience.
⭐Remedies: Discuss a few natural techniques and practices that can support clear perception and help process trauma to prevent further imbalances in the mind/body from manifesting.
“Psychological stress is caused by not being in the present moment, as it is. In the present moment, we see ‘what is’ and immediately we create stress by seeing the opposite of this - what should be, could be, would be. These are mere ideas.”

Proper times of eating and quantity of food
According to Ayurveda, we should only eat when we are hungry. Many imbalances occur in the body when we eat without hunger. In this way, the digestive fire gets easily overwhelmed by the food it needs to digest, and that food remains, partially or improperly digested in the GI tract as Ama; toxins or metabolic waste. It is said that these toxins are the root cause of all diseases.
The digestive fire, reflecting the course of the sun in the sky, is at its peak at midday. Thus, the largest or most difficult-to-digest of our daily meals should be taken at around midday. Depending on the strength of an individual’s digestive fire, they may take an additional 2 smaller meals during the day. The meals should be well spaced, allowing 5-6 hours in between for complete digestion to take place before giving the Agni a new meal to digest.
To know more about ayurvedic nutrition, join Sneha Raichada, MPT, CAP, E-RYT-200, AyurPrana Founder and Dean of Education at The Ayurvedic Institute, as she explores practical nutrition from an Ayurvedic perspective - with a particular focus on how, what, and when we eat can impact our overall health and wellness - https://liveayurprana.com/products/2093711
While the system of Ayurvedic medicine originates in ancient India, and we typically use a variety of spices to cook with, Ayurvedic nutrition is not limited to Indian food and recipes. Ayurvedic nutrition or the science of ahara, is a way of eating informed by an understanding of the prevalent qualities or gunas that the food possesses, as they relate to the five great elements; space, air, fire, water and earth.
Foods such as root vegetables, whole grains and nuts have the heavy, or guru qualities of the Earth element. Liquids in general such as water, juices, and soups have gunas similar to the Water element. Spicy, hot or pungent foods like chilli, mustard and ginger have the hot, ushna quality of the fire element. Crunchy, dry substances like crackers, dried fruit and salads have the same qualities of the Air and Space elements.
In Ayurveda, we see all bodily and mental imbalances as a manifestation of excess of any or all of these elements in the individual. Excess Vata dosha (air and space elements) can manifest as bloating, constipation, and anxiety. Excess Pitta dosha (fire element) can manifest as acidity, rashes and irritability. Excess Kapha (earth and water elements) can manifest as lethargy, weight gain and depression.
Furthermore, we can use the Ayurvedic principle of ‘like increases like’ to correct elemental imbalances in our body system through intentional food choices. For example, bloating is seen as an excess of the air and space elements or Vata dosha in the body, so in order to correct this excess of light, dry, rough and cold qualities, we would increase the consumption of warm, heavy, unctuous foods that have an affinity with the opposite elements; fire, water, and earth.

The Shad Rasa is the concept of six tastes of all food substances. What we mean by a ‘balanced diet’ in Ayurveda, is one that includes a good balance of all six tastes, each of which has a specific action on and affinity to particular organs in the body;
🍠The sweet taste, madhura is associated with the thyroid gland
🫁The sour taste, amla is associated with the lungs
🧂The salty taste, lavana is associated with the kidneys
🫀The pungent taste, katu is associated with the stomach and heart
☕The bitter taste, tikta is associated with the liver, spleen and pancreas
🍌And the astringent taste, kashaya is associated with the colon.
Too much or too little of a taste can manifest as imbalance in the body and mind, and we can use substances with particular tastes to correct imbalance using Ayurveda’s effective ‘like increases like’ principle of treatment.

The sacred science first developed thousands of years ago in Vedic times when martial artists used energy points therapeutically to recover from injury as well as to inflict injury on their opponents.
Sushruta, known as the father of surgery and living at least as far back as the Buddha over 2500 years ago, refined this ancient science and emphasized the importance of avoiding these vital pranic points when making incisions as a surgeon.
Veins, arteries, nerves, tendons, bones or joints intersect at marmani, so touching them even gently sets off a complex biochemical and neuroelectrical impulse that affects sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system functions and the release of endorphins and neurotransmitters - this translates to an effect on how we feel, our mood, and our experience of pain.
Marma points are so vital in their effect that specific marmani can be pressed to induce labor, bring back consciousness, or even cause instant death if damaged.
To learn more about Marma, Join our Online Course where we will dive into the marmani of the body and explore their significance and impact on the physical, mental and emotional states of our being.

The true essence of yoga lies in the union of these three elements, leading to a state of balance and harmony within ourselves and in the world around us.
Beyond the physical practice, yoga teaches us the importance of mindfulness and being present in the moment.

It is a journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance and self-transcendence that helps us to live in a state of balance, peace and harmony.
