The First Born of the Father – 11 August 2023, Anno Domini

Today Bishop Jerry talks about the First Born of the Father. The concept of being the First Born implies special gifts and responsibilities. It should be noted that the first born of imperfect man often falls short on the responsibilities and still wants the gifts. Note the great contrast between the first-born of the flesh (Cain) and the First-Born of God of the Spirit (Jesus Christ). Those of us who are first born are normally expected to fulfill our responsibilities and most seemingly do so, but it is not always the case. It all comes together in this short devotion. Thirty-Nine Articles – 4 August 2023, Anno Domini

Today Bishop Jerry talks about the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, their origin, need and meaning. The Thirty-Nine Articles are a brief and condensed statement of what Anglican Christians believe and teach. These carefully summarized statements of biblical theology were compiled by the English Reformers (Thomas Cranmer and Joseph Ridley) as a means to guide and guard our identity in Christ. The articles were established by a Convocation of the Church in 1563, using as a basis the 42 Articles written under the direction of Thomas Cranmer in 1553. There is a lot more to this than meets the eye. I hope you will take the time to read this devotion.

The Transforming Word

Today Bishop Jerry talks about The Transforming Word. All things created began with a word, and that Word in the beginning was Christ who is the Incarnation of the whole Word of God. No bit of matter in the constellations of Heaven, or in the earth exists apart from that Word from on High. here exists a spiritual creation as well as a physical one. The physical creation conforms to the Word of God, but is marred by the inept and corrupt hands of men. The outward appearance does not always represent what lies beneath the surface in the heart of man. The greed, pride, and insolence of his heart is often covered by a veneer of glossy marble so that he appears righteous though evil in his heart. The Jewish rulers of the time of Christ are excellent examples of the wickedness that can be covered by the outer robes of righteous appearance.

A Weariness of the Flesh – 20 July 2023, Anno Domini

Today Bishop Jerry talks about learning and false learning. All we need to know of the Triune God is contained in Holy Scripture. Sometimes we need help with understanding, but never should the detailed explanation contradict the clear meaning. It boils down to this, The Preacher of Ecclesiastes got it right: “And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.” Why spend endless hours parsing the Word of God and calling into question every jot and tittle? Why stay up all night to learn some strange notion that refutes God’s Word in order to impress your theology professor or his following?

When Jesus taught, He spoke in the commonly understood vernacular of the people. He never attempted to measure the point at which a mole hill becomes a mountain – and neither should we if we are serious in the study of the Bible and its message to man. I hope you will take the time to read this devotion.

Today Bishop Jerry talks about a lovely hymn, Christian, Dost Thou See Them. This hymn talks about the reality of this world and our response to it. There has always existed a great measure of evil in the societies of the world, and it is common to hear men say nothing has changed – it has always been this way. Based on the his observations over a span of eighty years, added to his study of world history, Bishop Jerry disagrees it has always been this evil. While the hymn addresses this, at the same time, the hymn offers answers. Almost like a sermon. I hope you will take the time to read this devotion.
