Looking for a good summer snack?
Apples are low in calories and fat, low in sodium, and contain vitamins and minerals as well as fiber. A Penn State University conducted a study, which revealed, that people, who ate an apple before a meal, ate fewer calories overall than those, who ate a different kind of snack. The reason for this is in apple’s very high-fiber status, which fills you up (each apple has about 4 to 5 grams of fiber). The fiber helps you feel full longer because it expands in your stomach so it takes less food to satisfy your hunger.

Did you know that carbohydrates don't just include chips soda, cookies, and bread? That fiber is a carb? Your favorite fruits...yea, those are carbs too! Many people misconceive dieting guidelines and the risks that are involved with cutting carbs completely out of your diet. Complete deprivation can actually decrease your metabolism, suppress your immune system, along with many other dangerous issues.

Your body NEEDS HEALTHY CARBS to meet its immediate energy needs for your brain, central nervous system, and muscles. Anthing extra is stored as glycogen in your liver and muscles. Your body can store up to 1/2 days supply of glycogen.

However, it is important to balance your carb intake with your calorie and energy needs. When your body's glycogen limit is more then what is needed carbs will be stored as fat. Create a diet with a good variety of simple and complex carbs to provide your body with the nutrients, vitamins, and fiber it needs.
