Shout out to Maplewood Elementary for becoming NKC Schools' first Heart Safe certified school, in partnership with Children's Mercy! Thanks to nurse Ellen Anderson for bringing this idea to Maplewood and to the amazing team of ten who completed the training and mock drill. They’re now even more prepared to respond to any sudden cardiac arrest emergency that might arise. We’re proud of their commitment to keeping everyone safe!

Yesterday, schools across the district honored Veterans Day with special assemblies, breakfast receptions, and other heartfelt gatherings. Our students and staff came together to celebrate and thank veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country. This Veterans Day, we remember the bravery and sacrifices of those who served. In honoring their legacy, we also embrace the chance to learn from history and carry forward their values of courage, resilience, and leadership.

Normandy Academy is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for North Kansas City Schools juniors to embark on an 11-day immersive summer learning and leadership experience in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Normandy, France. Through this journey, students will walk in the footsteps of history and gain a profound understanding of the past.

Thanks to the generosity of Oak Park alumnae Linda Holwick Bond ’76, the late Michele Evenson Lindsay ’76, the Jedel Family Foundation, and other dedicated donors, two students from each high school will be selected for the 2025 Normandy Academy cohort.

Last week, the excitement was off the charts as Bell Prairie Elementary School students and staff gathered to watch some of their brave school leaders get slimed! As a reward for recent fundraising efforts, fearless principals Jessica Montague and Amanda Desa, along with School Protection Specialist Jefrey Holbert-Hall, took on the gooey challenge in front of the whole school! Thank you to all who joined us for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of our Future Ready Lab! This innovative space offers a unique learning experience for NKC Schools fifth graders, bridging elementary education with real-world, secondary experiences. It sparks curiosity and excitement as students dive into the world of animatronics, robotics, and other STEAM fields.

We were especially honored to hear from Garner Holt himself, whose vision and support made this lab possible. Thank you to everyone who celebrated this milestone with us. This is just the beginning of an exciting journey for our students as they explore the careers of tomorrow!

🚑🩺 Hands-on learning in healthcare! Earlier this week, 27 Northgate Middle School students took part in the first-ever Men in Nursing event in partnership with University Health KC! They explored various careers in the medical field, with a special focus on nursing, and got hands-on experience in key skills like suturing, taking vitals, drawing blood, respiratory therapy, CPR, and lab work. What an incredible experience to learn from real-life professionals and see the exciting possibilities in healthcare!
