It isn’t always obvious when someone is struggling or having suicidal thoughts. That’s why one of the best things we can do is to start a conversation about it. We can meet people where they are and sit with them in what they’re going through. We can give people a safe space to be honest and vulnerable about what they’ve been feeling, and we can encourage people to get help if it’s all too much.

There are 50,000 Direct Care Workers across Michigan, including many at Hope Network. The quality of care provided by Direct Care Workers often goes unnoticed but is literally the lifeline for so many Michiganders with disabilities. We owe our Direct Care Workers a tremendous amount of gratitude for all they do – this week and all year round.
September 8th marks the inaugural 988 Day! Started by SAMHSA this annual event is dedicated to spreading awareness of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline and emphasizing the importance of giving those who are struggling with mental health the support they need. There was music. There was dancing. And there was A LOT of laughter! Last month, Hope Network’s River Valley Integrated Care facility transformed into a dance hall for their 2nd Annual Prom of the Decades! Community members donated their time, clothing, and skills to create an unforgettable experience for residents, volunteers, and staff. Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible!

Public safety professionals encounter high levels of stress, trauma and critical incidents, which can take a toll on mental health. MHFA for Public Safety gives personnel the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge and help connect them to the appropriate care. As part of Hope Network's Zero Su***de Initiative, our Mental Health Education Program brings people together to build a safe space to talk about mental health and to train the members of our community to better handle the times when we notice a mental health crisis in our lives. Our two curriculums, Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) offer skills that can help you as a citizen, potentially save lives by referring people to the right help they need. WHO WE ARE:
Hope Network is a non-profit organization operating across the state of Michigan. We have 300 locations and serve over 34,000 people with disabilities or disadvantages each and every year.
WHAT WE DO:
We help people overcome physical, mental or social barriers that impact how they live. The result is fulfillment through independence, progress, and community integration.

HOW WE DO IT:
For over 50 years, we’ve provided neuro rehabilitation, behavioral healthcare, developmental support services, autism services, community support, and more. We do this because we believe every person was created to live life to the fullest – no matter their age, no matter their background, no matter what’s holding them back.
WHY IT MATTERS:
60 million people in the U.S. suffer from disabilities or disadvantages that impact how they live. Over one million of these people live in Michigan. To put it into perspective, that’s more than the population of Detroit. A majority have fallen through the cracks and aren’t receiving the care they deserve. That’s a problem – but we’re solving it by being advocates for these people.
