Due to the severe thunderstorms predicted around 6pm, we will be moving our Just Roots supper service to 4:30-5:30 pm for this evening only. Please stop by for a meet & greet with Superintendent Patenaude and Asst. Superintendent Sullivan and a scavenger hunt hosted by Farmer Kyle!
**Please note, if the severe weather hits earlier than predicted we may need to close the site prior to 5:30pm. Thank you for understanding.

GPS Superintendent, Karin Patenaude, and Assistant Superintendent, Stephen Sullivan, will be at the Just Roots supper site on Wednesday evening 7/17 from 5-6pm to meet and chat with families! Week 4 of Summer Eats! FREE kid-friendly meals for all children & teens 18 and under! Keep an eye out for local fruits and veggies like blueberries, peaches, & cucumbers! 🫐🍑🥒
Attention Greenfield Families! 📢 There are a few site and schedule changes beginning Monday, July 15th!
✨ The Newton site will be closing on 7/12 due to low participation.
✨ All food truck lunch stops will be 30 minutes long starting 7/15 to accommodate high demand at the other food truck sites. Please see the graphic below or download the flyer on our website for the updated schedule.
✨ The YMCA site will no longer be serving breakfast as of 7/15 due to low participation. A reminder that the YMCA is open to the public for lunch. If your child is participating in an activity at the library across the street they are welcome to stop by and grab a meal.

We're so excited about our continued Summer Eats collaboration with Just Roots! Come visit their beautiful farm to grab free meals for kids every Wednesday from 5-6pm through August 14th! And mark your calendars for free nature-based activities for kids from 4:30-5:30pm on July 10, July 17, July 24, and August 7! Students from our elementary schools will recognize "Farmer Kyle" from our cafeteria taste tests this spring!
Good morning! ☀️ Our GHS and AEL sit-down meal sites are open as of today, July 8th! These sites will be open Monday - Thursday. Breakfast will be served from 8-9 am and lunch will be served from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm. Meals must be eaten on site. For the AEL site, please buzz in at the main entrance. For the GHS site, please enter the cafeteria using the door across from the track. Please note, the AEL site information has changed slightly since we shared our original flyer. Keep an eye on our social media pages and website for all things Summer Eats! New this year:
🚛 5 food truck stops for lunch, now including Greenfield Gardens and Newton School. Stops are only 20 minutes this year and times have shifted slightly, so be sure to look at the schedule.
📚 is now a supper site on Monday nights from 5-6pm!
Signage is slowly going up around the city, and we’re still waiting on a delivery of new lawn signs, but all sites are open as of today through August 16th (with the exception of AEL and the GHS indoor sites, which open 7/8). We will be closed July 4-5 next week for the holiday.

We’re here at the Green River Swim & Rec Area for our Summer Eats Kick Off until 6pm! The swim area is back open and we’ve got a free meal for kids and adult guardians and tons of great activities from organizations like and ! Come on down! 😎

Summer Eats 2024 starts on Monday, June 24th! 🥳 Check out these graphics for meal sites and times. You can also find a comprehensive flyer in English and Spanish on our Summer Eats webpage at gpsk12.org. We're offering breakfast, lunch, and supper at a variety of locations across the city, and our convenient grab & go meal service is back! We're now serving 5 lunch stops with the food truck, and 4 supper stops, including a new stop at Greenfield Public Library on Monday evenings!
Please note the following:
✨ All kids 18 and under are eligible for free meals. They do not need to be enrolled in Greenfield Public Schools or be residents of Greenfield.
✨ Kids are eligible for either breakfast and lunch or breakfast and supper. Kids may not participate in both lunch and supper on the same day.
✨ Parents / guardians may pick up meals for their kids, however we cannot serve free meals to adults. If you wish to purchase an adult meal, please speak with site staff.
✨ An updated meal accommodation form can be found on our webpage. If your child has a food allergy or needs meal accommodations please fill out the form and return to us. We will need to know which site(s) you plan on visiting regularly. Thank you!
✨ Camps and other programs cannot pick up bulk grab & go meals from our sites. Kids must be present on site to receive their meals at the point of service. If this situation applies to your program, please reach out to us at 413-772-1334 with any questions.

We had a blast showing off our food truck at in Norwood last week! 🚛 Thank you to and for having us! It was an honor to have Russell D. Johnston, Acting Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education on board, along with Rob Leshin, Director of the Office for Food and Nutrition Programs!
During the summit our Food Service Director presented on a panel called “Food Trucks Fueling Child Nutrition Programs,” along with fellow western mass programs and ! We hope we inspired other folks across the state to explore using a food truck or trailer in their program.
Greenfield was also recognized as a Massachusetts School Wellness Champion District for our successful completion of the SWITCH Massachusetts School Wellness Coaching program! Congrats to our District Nurse Leader, Melissa Bednarski, and all of the other GPS Wellness Committee members!
And lastly, a very special shoutout to Federal Street Cafeteria Worker, Sue Welcome, for driving the food truck all the way down to Norwood and back! Sue was an absolute rock star! 🤩💪🙏
It’s Hadley Grass season!! 🤩 We’re running a Local Asparagus Quiche lunch special for staff and we’ll be serving roasted asparagus across the district tomorrow with our Shepherd’s Pie!

Our May Harvest of the Month is seafood and Kyle from is taste testing tropical fish tacos with our elementary students! 🐟🌮 He was at Federal Street School on Friday and will be at Four Corners on Wednesday 5/15 and Newton on Thursday 5/16.
These taste tests will give students the opportunity to try our tropical fish tacos before they come up on the main menu on 5/29. The tacos feature local fish sticks, whole grain tortillas, peach salsa, and sriracha mayo 🔥
Summer Eats is right around the corner and we're looking for full and part-time staff to join our team!
We're looking for:
✨ Site Monitors to help prepare and package meals and bring them to sites across the city to serve kids
✨ Supper staff to work our Food Truck evening shift from 3-7pm Monday - Friday
✨ Substitute workers to fill in when regular program staff are out

And we’re very excited to share these photos from Author Jarrett Krosoczka’s visit to the district back in early April! It was such a special experience to have our GHS lunch heroes receive a shoutout on stage in front of the entire school from the author of the Lunch Lady comic books! While Jarrett was here, we were able to get signed Lunch Lady books for all of our staff to distribute today for SLHD!

Farmer Kyle from Just Roots will be back at our elementary schools taste testing tropical fish tacos! 🌮🐟
Today is our first taste test collaboration with ! 🥳 We’re thrilled to have “Farmer Kyle” here at our elementary schools this April taste testing local sweet potato casserole to celebrate potatoes as our harvest of the month. The goal is to expose students to new local foods and encourage them to try things! We’ll be serving up the sweet potato casserole across the district on April 24th 🍠😋
This partnership is made possible by the MA FRESH grant program. We’re very excited to be a recipient of this grant and launch new farm to school initiatives here in Greenfield! More info coming soon!
Our local baked potatoes were a hit with students today! At GHS, they were described as “gas” and “bussin.” Not quite up on the lingo but feeling pretty good about that feedback 🤣🥔

Tomorrow we’re serving up a pasta bake made with local mozzarella cheese, with a side of roasted local butternut squash! 🍝

We provide school breakfast and lunch to the students and faculty of Greenfield Public Schools. In accordance with the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs, we are dedicated to providing quality meals that contain the necessary nutrients for optimal learning, growth, and development. We recognize that life-long eating habits are formed early on in childhood. We hope to influence those eating habits for all students who participate in our lunch and breakfast program.
Greenfield Public Schools Breakfast and Lunch Program is a non-profit organization.
We pride ourselves in partnering with local farms or distributors who source local foods when possible. It is our goal to include the most fresh foods that are available to us in our program.
