If you are someone who has followed fad diets or severely restricted your diet to quickly lose weight, you will likely have to gain some weight before you can healthfully lose fat — regardless of your starting weight. This approach can be discouraging, but it is vital if you want to truly recover from the negative impact of restrictive eating.
In our latest blog post, we discuss a case study showing how the body heals from restrictive eating. Read here: https://bit.ly/3WmfznU
It’s not surprising that body image issues often increase during the summer months. Some research suggests that over 90 percent of women are disappointed with their bodies — and many of these insecurities are put on full display as the weather heats up. ☀️
This uptick in negative body image is particularly challenging for individual eating disorders. Read more about summer body image and simple steps to improve your body image here: https://bit.ly/4d8xzZH

While some individuals fit into the classic eating disorder categories (like anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa), many do not fit into these categories. They often have elements of one eating disorder combined with facets of others. This is known as OSFED. As a result, this patient population has been neglected and often becomes very sick.
With our machines at The Kahm Clinic, we are exceptionally good at honing in on the problem, and because we can see the problem so clearly, we can help this population. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/2DxbeK4
Perfectionism requires you to control your thoughts, feelings, environment, social settings, and personal or professional obligations — many of which are often out of your control! Here are 3 ways to push back against perfectionism. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3KaM7vn
We define perfectionism as a self-protective mechanism that posits, “If I do everything exactly right, I can escape any pain that comes from my struggles.” It’s this idea that, if you control everything, you can also control how the world perceives you.
In our recent blog post, we discuss how perfectionism plays a role in your relationship with food. Read here: https://bit.ly/3KaM7vn

It’s not surprising that research connects social media use to body image issues and eating disorders. 🤳 In a study conducted in Australia and New Zealand, nearly 52 percent of girls ages 13 and 14 with a social media account were likely to report disordered eating habits, including skipping meals or obsessive exercise. For boys in the same age group, 45 percent reported similar eating routines. In our latest blog post, we discuss the connection between body image issues and social media. Metabolic Testing measures how many calories someone is burning at rest and enables us to see if they are burning more or less than they should. Body Composition Analysis (BCA) measures the amount and proportion of fat and lean mass in a person's body. When using these tests, we can offer a highly effective treatment plan to our clients. Oftentimes, people come into The Kahm Clinic concerned that they have an eating disorder but also thinking that they’re okay or not “sick enough” to need treatment. Why do they believe that? Because their doctor says so! Usually, they’ve gone to the primary care physician with their worry and been told that they’re at a normal weight for their height. In some cases, their physician may even complete a blood work panel with normal results.
To no fault of primary care physicians, there is a lack of awareness when it comes to screening for eating disorders, especially during a normal visit. Everyone should be screened for an eating disorder. Read more here: https://bit.ly/463OWYp
