MFI Farrier Service
MFI Farrier Service offers a full range of hoof care and horseshoeing. Old Orchard Farm Farrier Service is owned and operated by Mike Isles.
I am based out of Charlton, NY and serve the Capital District and surrounding areas of New York State. Primarily focused on the sport horse, my goal is to help you succeed in the show ring whether at a local show or on the 'A' circuit. While hunters and jumpers are my passion, I take great pride in being a part of your horse's health care team regardless of your discipline.
IT’S TIME.
I’ve been considering the best time to do this for a while, always hoping I’d find a suitable replacement that I could recommend. Unfortunately I don’t have anyone that I can. Be that as it may I need to stop shoeing. My other businesses are taking off and require more of my time. I really appreciate everyone’s business and support over the past years. I also am grateful for everyone’s recent flexibility as my schedule has become increasingly chaotic.
At this time I am planning to suspend all of my farrier services as of 12/17. That’s 8 weeks from today. Until then I will continue to do my best to provide the same service I have. Hopefully in that time you will all be able to find someone to fill my shoes. If you’d like me to shoe your horses for the next rotation I am happy to do that. If you find someone sooner and want them to take over I understand.
I hope you understand that this was not an easy decision but it is time for me to take the next step.
May week 3 low ch/adult clsssic.
Sometimes you have to be able to make what you need. I couldn’t find a plate that I liked for this yearling with a hind coffin bone fracture so I made one out of 1/4x3/4” aluminum, tapped it, glued it on, and attached the plate as the vet requested. DIM packing.
Resetting a pair of Equilibrium front shoes on this this morning. Mustad Endura coated nails are my go to on any shoe that I nail on.
Quick pair of today on a heel sore that’s starting back at .
Putting the EDT + winter defense to the test today with some unknown quality fuel from Stewart’s and -5 degree temperatures. Over 150 miles. No problems. Avg mpg even went from 11.8 to 11.9. Thanks to for the great product recommendation.
When I’m not shoeing horses, I ride horses. Hero and me at on Saturday. Thanks to for the photo. If you were there and appreciated having the jumpers in jumper 2 please let management know, they went above and beyond to move us into that ring.
I’m a little late to the party with these 3d pads but they really are useful for horses that need a little help in the back part of their foot. This horse is set up with some impression material, a pad, and a kerckhaert sx-8. It’s all held in place with Capewell Endura sb5 nails. The purple is . I’ve just started using this product. I like it for an ounce of prevention when I’m going to cover the bottom of the foot and want to try to prevent any fungal/thrush issues.
These are literally the only nails I use these days. The Endura coating from is a game changer. The nails drive easier, wring better, and hold stronger than the competition.
We got to work on a lot of really great horses this summer at . We’re always happy to see them all do well but it makes you feel especially good when a horse comes in not feeling his best and you can help him. This horse was wearing a flip flop that was rather hard and didn’t provide much protection. We switched him to a Flex-step flip flop from and that’s all she wrote.
A pair of hind shoes fit up proper for a thoroughbred jumper. Couldn’t get by without my anvil and my .edens tongs
Set up at today. Always thankful for the opportunities this career has given me.
We always tend to post pictures of freshly shod feet that are all shiny and clean and as flawless as possible. How about one that’s mid-cycle and has been reset once or twice. I think this was 15” of 3/8x1 on a pretty nice hind foot. Notice how the toe of the shoe is shaped like a hind toe.
I post a lot about glue on shoes because they’re fun and different but it’s hard to beat a steel shoe on a nice foot. Notice how the hind toes are shaped like hind toes. You’re allowed to do that. You don’t have to leave them how they came out of the box. The horse will thank you.
I don’t come across many that break like this but it happens. Got him all fixed up. No problem.
Just how I like to start my mondays. At least he made it through the weekend.
Love . If this doesn’t summarize my summers idk what does.
Congratulations to Fiona on an awesome week at Saratoga. We have this horse set up in Polyflex Horseshoes. I think it’s safe to say he likes them!
Fiona DiCerbo rode her own horse “Credence” to the Grand Junior Hunter Championship this week! Way to go Fiona!
