Wait...before you throw your glass bottle in your recycling bin....or the trash (yes, some people do this still đ) the PRC is bringing the Traveling Glass Bin back to Delco! Haverford Township is hosting this event which benefits all the people in Delco! Why? How? Yes, we have single stream recycling....but if we could take glass out and give it to the PRC....our township would pay less in recycling costs. Recycling costs are determined by weight, and of all the things we recycle...glass weighs the most! So come on....save up your glass bottles and take them to the Traveling Glass Bin! Here are the details!
Haverford Twp Office, lower parking lot, 1014 Darby Rd, Havertown, PA 19083
If you want a higher quality glass recycling option than typical curbside programs or if your community has stopped recycling glass, you can be sure that glass deposited into this bin meets the highest standards and can be fully recycled. This program is brought to you by PRC and this stop is funded by Haverford Township. For information on how to bring the traveling bin to your community, visit PRC at https://prc.org/workshops-collection-events/collection-events/glass-recycling/traveling-glass-bin/.
Why recycle glass? Glass can be endlessly recycled but many townships have stopped collecting it or their âsingle stream recyclingâ provider has been bringing glass to landfills to use as daily cover. PRCâs objective is to promote permanent glass recycling options in our region. Please consider your miles traveled and carbon emissions and deliver glass most efficiently during this monthlong period. You can partner with family and neighbors, use an electric vehicle, run it on renewable power, make it a stop on another trip to the area ⊠so many ways to keep it green and clean in Delco.

Industry & Philadelphia Water Department Embark on a Misinformation Campaign to Sacrifice the Sturgeon!
The Philadelphia Water Department and industrial operators in the Delaware Estuary have embarked on a wildly off base misinformation campaign in order to stop EPA from strengthening and finalizing regulations that will prevent the Atlantic Sturgeon of the Delaware River from going extinct and help a multitude of other species, including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill sunfish, green sunfish, American shad and others that are important to our communities and our River system.
Other municipalities and industries around our region have put in place the operations that will address their pollution contributions to the problem â why shouldnât the Philadelphia Water Department have to do the same?
By mischaracterizing the science and the impacts of what is being proposed, the Philadelphia Water Department and industry are trying to overwhelm the record with comments that oppose improving and protecting the water quality of the Delaware River that is essential to all of our lives. The Philadelphia Water Department and industry have spent untold amounts of money on high priced lawyers and misinformation in order to avoid taking responsibility for the damage they have done.
Letâs not let them get away with it.
Please join us in standing with all of the communities of the Delaware River, including the sturgeon.
We need you to take a few minutes â Right Now, Today â to submit a public comment.
The Atlantic Sturgeon are on the brink of extinction with less than 250 spawning adults left. Stronger water quality standards and dissolved oxygen levels are essential if we are to restore these majestic creatures to full population health, and to provide critical protections to other fish that are important to the river system and support recreational and commercial fishing. Any and all comments are important in this decision making process.
We need to be sure that EPA hears from the people to whom this River belongs, not just the PWD and industries that view our river as a waste receptacle to be sacrificed if it means more profit.
The public comment period is currently open and closes on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024.
Public comments should be directly submitted through this special EPA portal:
https://go.delawareriverkeeper.org/e/176172/enton-EPA-HQ-OW-2023-0222-0001/2k43gs/419071181/h/vOwx-jcwR3F_E5plcA1gVECtKM3OwkVzNSdbDTVyujk

What do Orcas, trees and you have in common? They all need each other to survive! That's right....the endangered Orcas need trees for their food and trees need you to plant them. Read about this fascinating connection here:

More 'Making Upper Darby Beautiful' with some help from our NEW Mayor Mr. Ed Brown! Over the weekend wildflower seeds were planted along the front entrance of Naylor's Run Park on Garrett Road. Wildflowers support pollinators such as bees and butterflies, which in turn help provide food sources for both wildlife and people! Stay tuned for more happenings with the Upper Darby EAC!
Did you know.....the United States Postal Service fleet is going all electric! Great letter from Penn Environment Director, David Masur.
The U.S. Postal Service just unveiled their first electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for their new fleet of delivery trucks.1
This is exciting progress after we won our campaign to electrify the Postal Service fleet. And it wouldn't have happened without the support of people like you.
Along with our national network, PennEnvironment generated over 100,000 actions calling on Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to commit to all electric mail trucks.
And now the rubber meets the road as the new electric postal trucks start rolling out.
It'll help make a dent in global warming pollution -- the Postal Service has the largest federal government fleet, and EVs will zero out tailpipe pollution that warms our planet and pollutes our air.
We're looking forward to a bright future of electric mail trucks in every neighborhood.
The new chargers are juicing up Postal Service trucks near Atlanta. And in 2024, hundreds of new EV charging hubs will be built around the country as the Postal Service prepares for 66,000 new EVs.2
Every night, the trucks will fuel up for the next day of delivering mail. These charging hubs will lay the foundation for the nation's largest fleet of electric vehicles.
The transition is happening quickly, in part thanks to our advocacy. In addition to convincing the Postal Service that EVs are a good long-term investment, we helped convince Congress to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which included $3 billion to electrify the Postal Service. With the combination of federal funding and our voices, USPS agreed to go all electric.
We're winning concrete solutions to climate change, getting gas-guzzling vehicles off the road, promoting clean energy and more.
