Pecan Harvest Season is here!
Pecan farmers grow pecans in the late spring during April and May. Nuts would begin to form because of wind pollination. By the summer, trees would bear young pecans. These would mature in late September or early October. After the six-month growing season, the pecan harvest season follows. Throughout the harvest season, nuts fall from the trees when they are fully mature. However, pecan growers cannot wait the entire season for nuts to fall. They use machines or mechanical shakers that gently shake the tree without weakening its roots, causing all the nuts to fall down. The farmers then leave the nuts on the ground for the next machine to pick them up off the ground. After that, the nuts are collected by the harvesting machines, called "pickers". The growers or workers then clean the pecans, removing all the dirt, debris, and leaves away from the nuts. Once the pecans are harvested, it’s time to dry them. Drying or curing pecans helps preserve them and makes them into the delicious snacks and baking ingredients we love. #pecan #harvest #season #october #fall #autumn #eatmorepecans

The fact that our products come from the farm and agriculture means that we are shaking hands with Mother Nature. Because the sun, soil and water are the business partners of pecan growers. At SGP, we enthusiastically embrace the shift to brand transparency and sustainability, and we’re doing our part! Did you know that pecans are large, long-lived trees and can thus store significant amounts of carbon for a long time? Like all plants, as pecan trees “breathe in” carbon dioxide, it combines with water in the presence of sunlight to make sugar (carbohydrates) and the oxygen we breathe. 🌳HAPPY EARTH DAY🌎 #earthday2023 #pecans #sustainablity #trees #earthday #EatMorePecans

January marks the end of the Pecan Tree Harvest Season, in this time of the year we harvest the remaining pecans at the orchard and the preparations for the next harvest season begins. We start pruning trees while they're dormant, this helps the cut wounds heal faster, reducing the risk of disease and insect infestation. We remove any debris left over, clean and store our harvest equipment and start planting new pecan trees. We are very grateful for all the hard work put in by the growers and the SGP team this harvest season and for making it a great success. #team #work #success #grateful #harvestseason #harvest #pecans #eatmorepecans #quality

❄PECAN SNOWBALLS COOKIES❄ ✨Ingredients - 1 cup unsalted butter, softened - ½ cup powdered sugar - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract - 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour - 1 cup very finely chopped pecans - ¼ teaspoon salt - ⅓ cup powdered sugar, or more as needed ✨Directions Step 1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Step2 Beat butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer in a large bowl until smooth. Gradually mix in flour, pecans, and salt until completely incorporated. Roll dough into walnut-sized balls and place 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Step 3 Bake in the preheated oven until bottoms are light golden brown but tops are still pale, 12 to 15 minutes. (Try not to let cookies get too brown: it's better to undercook them than to overcook them.) Step 4 Remove cookies from the oven and let sit on the baking sheets briefly before removing to wire racks. Step 5 Place 1/3 cup powdered sugar in a shallow bowl; roll hot cookies in sugar to coat, then return to the wire racks to cool. Once cooled, roll cookies in the powdered sugar once more.

Pecans
Pecans are a high-fat nut with 20 grams per ounce. Fortunately, the vast majority of fat in pecans comes from heart-healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. There are only 1.7 grams of saturated fat per 1-ounce serving of pecans. The fiber in pecans and other plant-based foods is essential for digestive health. Fiber regulates bowel movements and may even reduce the risk of intestinal cancer. #pecans #health #protein #fiber #eatmorepecans #glutenfree
