Glenna J Saum of Van Wert, Ohio went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 10, 2024 at the age of 71.
Glenna was born on April 11, 1953 in Van Wert, Ohio to Robert Dunlap and Betty (Davis) Dunlap. She was a graduate of Lincolnview high school in 1971. 
 Glenna spent the majority of her life, caring for children; mostly in home. All of the children she cared for became part of her family. She loved seeing her “kids” all grown up with their families. She also joined many church activities, mostly for children. Over the last several years, she attended Pioneer Christian Ministries.
One of her ways to be involved and helping was encouraging people through social media. She always prayed and gave uplifting words on social media to those who needed them.
Glenna was blessed with one daughter, Janine Saum of Van Wert, grandson, Reese and granddaughter Catanna, both of Van Wert, a bonus, great granddaughter, Caleah Thomas, brother Glenn Dunlap of Fort Wayne, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding Glenna in death were her parents and sisters, Roxann Thompson-Robinson and Robin Kimmel.
Family and friends please join us to celebrate Glenna at Brickner Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be Monday, May 13, 2024 from 4 PM to 7 PM and Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 10 AM to 11 AM, funeral following at 11 AM.

Thomas Charles “Charlie” Brickner, age 76 of Van Wert died Wednesday, September 8, 2021. He was born June 22, 1945 in Van Wert, Ohio, the son of the late Carl F. and Madge (Angevine) Brickner.

He is survived by his daughters, Aimee (Rich Rodriguez) Brickner of North Garden, VA, Major Virginia Brickner of Anchorage, AK and Sarah (Philip Maxon) Brickner of Galena, OH; Twin brother, Jim Brickner of Van Wert; Nephews, Carl Brickner of Tipp City, OH and Michael (Katie) Brickner of Wilmington, DE. Grandson, Robert “Bobby” Charles Brickner Rodriguez of North Garden, VA.

At age 16, Charlie and Jim assumed an active role in Brickner Funeral home and ambulance service when their father, Carl F. Brickner, died suddenly. They have continued the funeral business and grew the ambulance business into a major operation.

Charlie graduated in the class of 1963 from Van Wert High School and then attended Ohio Northern University branch campus at Celina (now Wright State). From there, he went on to attend the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science (class of 1967/1968) and received his Ohio Funeral Directors and Ohio Embalmers licenses in 1968. Charlie was recognized by the Ohio Funeral Directors Association for his 50 years of service award in 2018.

Throughout the years, Charlie has been very active in the Van Wert community. For over 40 years, Charlie held multiple roles on the board for Wee Care Learning Center. He was President when they built their current building on Van Wert Decatur Road. Charlie was active in the Van Wert Lions Club for more than 50 years receiving the Melvin Jones Fellowship award. He was also a Life member and Past Governor of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1320, Life member of Knights of Columbus Council 6034, Life member of Elks 1197, Life member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. Charlie was able to continue his high school band experience by playing tuba in both the Van Wert Area Marching Band and the Van Wert Community Band for many years.

Charlie was quite the character and prankster. If your paths have ever crossed, we hope the memory leaves you with a smile or even a laugh.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Monday, September 13, 2021, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Keith Stripe & Rev. Chris Bohnsack officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call at Brickner Funeral Home Sunday, September 12, from 2 - 8.

Preferred Memorials are to the Wee Care Learning Center and Van Wert Area Community Band.

Willie C. Eddins, Jr., age 74 of Van Wert died at Van Wert Health Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 2:15 PM. He was born September 12, 1946, in Starkville, Mississippi the son of the late Willie C. and Clara (Boyd) Eddins, Sr. On August 1, 1970, he married Patricia Evans who survives him in Van Wert.

He is also survived by his son Damon (Shanette) Eddins of Van Wert; Siblings Herman Eddins, Gaines (Dina) Moran, Curtis Eddins all of Van Wert, Evette Williams and Yvonne Moran both of Starkville, Mississippi, Nazola Bayless of Columbus, Ohio, and Doris (Ted) Kelly of Van Wert; Grandchildren DeShaum Eddins, Sharayah Eddins, and Kaleb Groover all of Van Wert.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Shanesa Eddins and siblings David Eddins, Dessie James, and Deliteus Moran.

Willie had been employed by ODOT in the clerical department and was also a former employee of the Van Wert Chrysler Amplex plant and the Lima Tank Plant. He was a 32nd. Degree Mason in a Fort Wayne Masonic Lodge, Past Commander of Van Wert American Legion Post 178, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 Van Wert, and Van Wert Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1320. He had proudly served his country in the US Army and then as a member of the Ohio National Guard.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, August 20, 2021, at Brickner Funeral Home with Rev. Victor Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military rites rendered by the combined Honors Unit of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803. Friends may call at Brickner Funeral Home Thursday, August 19, from 1 - 7 and on Friday 1 hour prior to services.

Preferred Memorials are to the Salvation Army.

Janet D. Becker, age 87, of Van Wert died at 2:40 AM Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home. She was born December 4, 1933, in Spencerville, OH the daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Masters) Rhoades. She married Robert "Bob" Becker who preceded her in death on December 20, 1999.

She is survived by her children Lori Becker of Van Wert: Alan (Dawn) Becker of Bradenton, Florida: Grandchildren Michael (Keri) Kasza of Bowling Green, Ohio: Adam (Mandy) Becker of Lutz, Florida: Ryan Becker of New Port Richey, Florida: Ciara (Jordan) Becker of Van Wert: Great Grandchildren Emma, Owen, Ian, Bexlea, Theo: Brother; Mike (Sandy) Rhoades of Toledo, Ohio: Sister-in-Law Marcia Stevens.

Janet was a long-time employee of First Federal Savings and Loan Bank of Van Wert. She was a member of American Legion Post 178 Auxiliary of Van Wert. She loved all of her family and their times together. She enjoyed playing Bingo and being with her "Bingo Family".

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at Brickner Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call at Brickner Funeral Home from 2 - 7 Tuesday, August 10 and on Wednesday 1 Hour prior to Services.

Thomas Donald Stachler, 50 of Ohio City passed away on July 28, 2021, at Van Wert Health.

He was born to Dennis and the late Phyllis (Huber) Stachler. On June 15, 1996, he married Diana Renner who survives in Ohio City. They recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by a daughter, Kayla Stachler (Cole Ketchum) of Ohio City. He is also survived by his father, sisters and brother, Amanda and Tim Bertke of New Bremen, Laura and Bill Ryan of Bossier City, LA, and William and Tracy Stachler of Osgood. Tom is also survived by his mother-in-law, Louise Renner of Van Wert, Tom and Carolyn Wolbert of Lucinda, PA, Dennis and Angie Renner of Van Wert, Brian and Stephanie Renner of Van Wert, Brent and Krisi Renner of Van Wert, and Matt and Cathy Smith of Van Wert. He was loved by his nieces and nephews Brian Bertke, Bethany and Joe Meyer, (Hayley), Brianna and Andy Monnin, (Madelynn and Riley), Brent Berke, Brad Bertke, Will and Ellen McCutcheon, Levi Stachler, Lincoln Stachler, Lindy Stachler, Trayson Stachler, Becca and Seth Beary, Jessica and Christian Snyder, (McKenna), Robby Wolbert, Kyle Doseck, Kara and Logan Rupert, (Ruby), Brandon Renner, Annie Renner, Carter Renner, Emerson Renner, Jayden Renner, Alivia Renner and Aiden Smith.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law Robert Renner and a niece, Hope Renner.

Tom was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a lifelong truck driver and was employed by different companies throughout his adult life. His pride and joy was being owner/operator of TDS Express Trucking.

He loved being with family and friends. Most of all he loved and enjoyed life. He always had an ornery smile on his face and would quickly tease or joke with you to make you smile. He didn't know a stranger and never failed to lend a hand when you needed it. He fought cancer stubbornly and courageously for the past 8 years. He never let it stop him until recently and his courage throughout his fight was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Visitation is from 2-8 PM Monday, Aug. 2 and from 9-10 AM Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Brickner Funeral Home of Van Wert. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM Tuesday, Aug. 3 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Chris Bohnsack officiating. Burial in Ridge Cemetery will follow services. There will be a Rosary Service Monday at the funeral home following visitation.

Preferred Memorials are to the American Cancer Society and the family.

Marcia K. (Snyder) Dangler, age 73, of Van Wert, died at 7:31 AM Friday, July 23, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born September 20, 1947, at Van Wert the daughter of the late Hermie Snyder and Roxie (Routt) Grieshaber She married Roger D. Dangler who preceded her in death on July 25, 2011.

She is survived by her children: Tina Hammond, Neil Hammond, and Jessica (Dangler) Sargent all of Van Wert-Grandchildren Starrae (Daniel) Musser of Hunter Town, IN- Crystal Protsman. of Fort Wayne, IN-Tanner Houser of Michigan- Logan Hammond of Van Wert-Mercades Hammond of Van Wert-Blaze Allen of Van Wert-Christopher Lathrop of Van Wert-Eric (Stephanie) Hammond, Jr. of Van Wert- Nicholas (Andrew) Hammond of Florida- Rylan Burnett of Van Wert- Kylerr Burnett of Van Wert- Arianna Snyder of Van Wert- Kaylum Walters of Van Wert-3 Great Grandchildren Gavin, Gabi, and Lily all of Van Wert-2 Brothers Ronald and Tommie Grieshaber of Van Wert- 2 Sisters Jean Ann Spencer and Wanda Longwell both of Van Wert, She was preceded in death by her son Eric Hammond, Sr., three brothers Kim Snyder, Tony and Robert Grieshaber and a sister Marlene Crissinger and 2 Great Grandsons Emmett and Beckett Musser.

Marcia was a member of Grace Bible Church and a retired employee of Herbert E. Orr Co. of Paulding, Ohio. She was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sports activities.

Martha E. "Annie" Keipper, age 81, of Columbus, IN, died at 8:05 AM Tuesday, July 20, 2021, in Hospice at the home of her daughter Mary Shelton of Columbus, IN. She was born July 9, 1940, in Hanau, Germany the daughter of the late Heinrich and Katherina (Hoffman) Schilling. On December 22, 1956 she married Robert V. Keipper who preceded her in death November 17,1997.

She is survived by her children: Mary (Richard) Shelton of Columbus, IN- Susie Emrick of Van Wert- Vanessa (Michael) Shaver of Logansport, IN- Laura Mason of Logansport, IN-Edward (Lisa) Keipper of Rockford, Ohio-Daughter-in-law Gladys Keipper of Van Wert-12 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren- Sister, Karin of Florida. She was preceded in death by two Sons Patrick and Colin Keipper and a Granddaughter Leah Emrick.

Annie was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. She also was a Life Member of both the Van Wert Veterans of Foreign Wars Aux. 5803 and Van Wert American Legion Post 176 Aux. She was very proud of becoming a Citizen of the United States on June 15, 1965.

Friends may call at Brickner Funeral Home Friday morning, July 23, 2021, from 9:00 AM TO 11:30 am at which time Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 Aux. will conduct a Memorial Service followed by a Funeral Service with Rev. Brickner Funeral Home is family-owned and operated, we have been serving families in Van Wert, Ohio, and the surrounding area for over a century. Founded in 1888 by B.L. Vore on Main Street, and moved to its current location in 1932.

Elmer Knoll purchased a partnership in the firm, followed by Dana Didrick and Carl F. Brickner in 1954. Didrick was a partner until 1957. The firm took the name of Knoll & Brickner Funeral Home in 1958. In 1961, Carl F. Brickner died and Elmer Knoll left the firm. At that time, James and Charles Brickner had expressed an interest in the funeral home but were still in school. Madge Brickner, the wife of Carl F. Brickner, managed the firm after the death of her husband until Jim received his license in 1967, followed by Charles the next year.

In the day-to-day operations, families meet with either Charles or James for their at-need or pre-need arrangements. For over a century, our funeral home has provided dedicated, caring service to the families of our area. Our mission is to build on this tradition and to continually expand the services we offer - providing each family we serve with the best care possible.

Reminder Eastbound Traffic on Main St will be closed 🚧 starting at 7:00 pm and last until 9:00 pm. The run route will be closed during the race. The street closure will also be on Central Ave between Washington Street and Market Street for Town Creek Live.

Jeffery M. Young, age 61, of Van Wert, died at 11:55 AM Monday, July 5, 2021, at Mercy Health in Lima. He was born February 8, 1960 in Van Wert the son of the late Ervin N. and M. Jane (Tumbleson) Young.

He is survived by his daughter Madison J. Young and his former spouse Kari Young both of Van Wert; brothers Timothy (Kathy) Young and K.David (Connie) Young both of Van Wert and sisters Cynthia Kohorst and Melanie Mace both of Van Wert and nieces and nephews.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Van Wert and served as maintenance custodian of the church.

"Therefore you now have sorrow but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice and your joy no one will take from you."
