Small update on hopea. She's healing but her healing has slowed down. There's not a lot we can do other than keep her clean and hope for the best. It would be awesome if she'd stop over grooming her injury. 🙄 She's still a s***ky active girl and you'd never know that she's in any pain. Although I know she is.

Rats hide pain a bit too well so it's important that you give your rats wellness checks to make sure you catch anything as soon as it starts to show. Unfortunately Hopeas abscess wasn't visible we only could feel it. So just like when humans get breast exam, that's about the pressure and movement you should use when looking for tumors or abscesses.

This time around we will be breeding our self black double rex with our self black rex as well as out standard coat marten.

My apologies for the vid being a bit out of focus...🙃

Aspen X Forest
Born April/24/24. (Almost 8wks)

Just wanted to show off how cute and sweet this trio is. They're currently still in temperament testing till mid July.

Aspen X Forest
Born 4/24/24

These 3 girls are almost 8 wks old. Just 4 more weeks of temperament testing before they'll be ready. We have high hopes for these girls. I'll be posting a video of them shortly to show their progress!

Martens are still so very new to the Rattery and they can have temperamental and even physically health issues. So seeing how healthy and and out going our babies are is a win for us!

*Not available for the public at this time, come back around July 20th to see if they've available.*

Summer is just around the conner are you and your ratties prepared?

Rats prefer a temp range of 64°F to 79°F so it's important we keep our little friends cool these hot summers. Here's a few tips on how to help cool off/keep cool your pocket puppies!

•1. Keep windows shades closed during that day. The shades will help refect heat.

•2. Add ice to thier water. We all love a good cold drink on a hot day.

•3. Use a fan. You may use a fan around your rats, however please make sure no airflow is directly on them or thier cage. As this can cause URI issues.

•4. Cold tiles. Ceramic tiles and plates are a great way to cool any small pet. You may freeze these for up to 30 mins to cool them enough for your rats, or you can juts place a few in the shady spots of the cage. (Some tiles will break in the freezer so keep an eye on them)

•5. Out side of cage time! This is important on a daily basis as rats need exercise!

•6. Frozen veggies and fruits. *These are treats and should not be given in large amounts or frequently * Frozen treats are just that. Treats to cool your ratties off.

•7. Pea fishing! Rats live water so a great exercise is pea fishing. Use a shallow bowl and add other frozen or fresh peas to about half to 1 inch of water. (This can get messy) your rats will love playing in the water and eating a delicious snack.

•8. Water fun. If your rats are familiar and adpt to play in water then you can absolutely use the pea fishing method (without the peas) and let your ratties play in the water.

•9. Frozen gallon jugs, if you're in an area that gets really hot and humid summers you can use Frozen gallon jugs to help cool your rats off. All you have to do is freeze about a half or so of water and place thw gallons near the cage base. This can help lower the temperature of the cage. Just make sure they can't tech the jug and it doesn't leak into the cage.

•10. AC, yes you can use an ac unit in the same room as your rats. The same rules applies as a fan. The ac unit must not be bear any cages and no airflow should touch your rats cage. As that can cause URI issues.

●If you're unsure what an overheating/ uncomfortably warm rat looked like here are some sings they may need cooler temps.

•1. Spawning out /packaging. (Trying to cool off)
•2. Excessive grooming (stress form being too warm)
•3. Lethargic and reduced activity.
•4.hot ears and tails to the touch. Rats use thier ears and tails to help cool them off. If they're ears are hot their body temperature is also pretty warm. Cool them off slowly if they have hot ears and or tails.
•5.refusing to eat. (loss of appetite)
•6. Over exercise drooling.

*If you think your rats overheating and or experiencing heat stroke call your vet immediately!*

Sometimes I don't understand mice.... They have a whole 20 gal tank to spread out in but they all chose to scare me by piling up in the conner. I thought they were over heating just to find out they're all just in a huge sleeping pile and just fine..

Would it be too much to ask for some love today?
Ou girl Hopea had a ruptured cyst on her under side. It's healing up well, but it's so hard seeing your babies in pain. Her recovering has been long but it's looking like she will pull through just fine. She's a strong little lady with so much s***k!

Hopea is around 2 yrs old now so she does have very long with us (in human time). So seeing her in pain this past week has been heartbreaking. She's been my personal favorite and is a second to being another heart rat for me. ❤️

Happy pride month! 🏳️‍🌈
We here at Rebel Rattery accept and support you! Because we understand love is love! ❤️

Perfect rat fact for the month;
♡ Male and female rats will mount thier same s*x cage mates to show dominance as well as social statutes and a way to get some hormonal frustration out!
This is all normal and perfect safe as long as the dominant female or male doesn't target one of, or bully all of thier mates.

*PSA this post talks about culling and reptiles.*

What a successful day!
Not only did we get several babies adopted we also found a reptile rescue that we can donate our culls to!

So if you're new to the rat breeding, when we breed we may have to cull litters down and or cull bad traits. We do this to ensure that our lines are stable and healthy.

Today we decided to check out a reptile rescue and fell in love with what they do. So we have made the decision to donate our culls and any future culls we may have to help feed some of those amazing creatures at the rescue.

We Don't like wasting what we can use or donate, so by donating we are helping complete the cercle of life as well as help ensure that the reptiles we help feed have a healthy ethical sorce of food.

Huge little update on our mice lines.
This litter line has shown so much progress. Babies are still lil jumpers, but not as much as the last generation! Looking closer and close to being able to possibly sell for pets!
Might not this year but maybe next yr we'll have mice available for pet homes. The 1st yr is always trial and testing.

I've seen these hammocks pop up a lot lately so let's talk about them!

Are these hammocks safe for your rat?
Well the answer lies in what's it made of. Seeing as it's knitted out of yarn it's say it's not safe!

Yarm and cotton is NOT safe for rats and small aniamls, and here's a list why;

*1. They're toes and limbs will get stuck resulting in loss of extremity, or ☠️.

*2. They will chew it! An as we know cotton gets stuck around teeth resulting in; serious injuries and or ☠️.

*3 Cotton also is know to wrapp around the digestive system if swallowed resulting in ☠️.

Please do not get these hammocks, they're mini ☠️ traps.
