“Red Alert, to Crew to Battle Stations!”
May 20, 2024
The shock of the command straightened everyone’s spine and we all knew exactly what to do.
Something like this is probably never heard in a typical SOC unless it is because someone is watching Star Trek or having a Cosplay moment. None the less, if you have ever spent any time in a security operation center of any kind, people have an unconscious preparedness for action, even if it isn’t a military operation center.
The idea of command centers has always fascinated me. Everything from the old NASA command centers to the fictional bridge of Enterprise has sparked my imagination and passion to understand the functions within each type. I have been fortunate in my career to have seen many of these, and helped build a few, including my own “Home Command Center”, which I will detail in future articles.
When you look at something like this, you see is a whole host of functions that ultimately fall under a blanket called network control centers. There are two key things happening in any control center, first is telemetry collected by a host of data sources, and then a data processing element to make sense of all the data. In a well-constructed command center, it is obvious what those functions are, while poorly defined centers just look like a room full of people. The idea behind this article is to discuss some of the elements of well-designed command and ops centers from existing powerful examples.

He has to use insulin injections to manage blood sugars.
We spent time tuning up his cooking processes for the past month, and I decided to document a few of these recipes on YouTube.
Here is my very first installment. Many more to come! Give it a like and a subscribe if you are feeling it.

On the far left is a Windows laptop with the earth images.
I have two portable monitors that connect via Thunderbolt 4 cables (best power/data throughput).
Above the right monitor is a Sony A6100 on the arm, so I can use it as a close up cam
I also have a blink cam above the laptop, just in case I am traveling.
The laptop cooling screen is where I put my Mac when not on contract.
Hidden:
