MVCS Island Employment Services
Island businesses benefit from a diverse workforce. Our program supports both the employer and employee through every step of the employment process.
We work with local business owners and individuals to develop seasonal and/or year-round employment opportunities for adults with barriers to employment in our community. We receive contracts to work with eligible individuals from the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission.

July Pride
Celebrating National Disability Pride Month - AbleGamers Found on Google from ablegamers.org
Throughout the month of July we will be highlighting what each color of the Disability Pride flag represents.
GREEN represents sensory disabilities including, deafness, blindness, lack of smell, lack of taste, audio processing disorder, and more.
Did you know...
The Disability Pride flag was created in 2019 by Ann Magill, an artist with cerebral palsy? The current flag is a revised version, since Ann Magill’s original design had the stripes zigzag to represent how people with disabilities must maneuver around all the barriers faced daily, but the color shades weren’t accommodating to people with visual impairments and the zigzag of the stripes triggered migraines and seizures for some. So Magill redesigned the flag with softer colors that also accommodate people with red-green colorblindness, and linear diagonal stripes.
Happy !
Throughout the month, you may see this pastel rainbow flag, but what does it mean?
Here’s what each color represents:
🌈Red represents physical disabilities
🌈Gold stands for neurodivergence
🌈White is for invisible disabilities or undiagnosed disabilities
🌈Blue represents emotional and psychiatric disabilities
🌈Green symbolizes sensory disabilities

Have you ever heard of Employment First?
It's a concept that's all about making sure people with disabilities have the opportunity to work in regular jobs, just like everyone else. It means that employment, in the general workforce, should be the first choice for individuals with disabilities who are getting help from publicly funded systems. Because let's face it, everyone deserves the chance to find meaningful employment and earn real wages, right?
If you're curious to learn more about Employment First and why it's so important, check out this link: https://apse.org/about-2/employment-first-copy/ 📚✨

People with disabilities need good jobs too, and several U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) agencies assist people with disabilities in seeking meaningful work and succeeding once on the job. DOL also advises employers on effective strategies for recruiting and retaining qualified people with disabilities, as well as educates federal agencies and federal contractors and sub-contractors about their obligations related to affirmative action and nondiscrimination in hiring.
