A few Sundays ago in September, which is early for my fall visit to Lakota Wolf Preserve, i was able to share the incredible experience of being with wolves (and fox and bob cats and lynx) with my great nephew Jackson. Seeing the natural world through the eyes of a child is so special. And howling with wolves never gets old. I got to teach him a little bit about photography, and wolves (and he taught me about Minecraft). Here are a few shots.

A few weeks ago I got to get in touch with nature a bit and do some of my favorite photography things, like check out the new puma cubs Elbroch and Olympia at the Phila Zoo. Hard to capture, they know where to hide! Here are just a few shots of the visit. I left some of the photos untouched or not full of magic retouching, showing the difficulties of shooting thru fence, etc. and it never gets old photographing Motuba!

Hello again! I know it has been a while since i made a post. I am getting all of the images ready for the holidays, did you know they are all on sale? This is Tony the Rhino at @philadelphiazoo. I just visited him recently. Isn't he cool? He is a southern white rhinoceros. They are now classified as near threatened. Their comeback is regarded as a major conservation success story. The image is done in the "cubism" process.

I showed this type of lemur in a previous post form this collection, but i love this one, i took this photo in Madagascar on Lemur Island, 8 years ago, and it is like it was yesterday, this sifika followed my canoe all the way down, leaping, dancing... so special. As one of the largest species of Lemur, the Diademed Sifaka is an endangered species that is endemic to Madagascan rainforests. Learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJp1PKrvdNA

Critically Endangered Black & White Ruffed Lemur... so cool to be with in the wild. Learn more below.

It's fitting that I choose a critically endangered black & white ruffed lemur today, as I was in Madagascar 8 years ago today having Lemurs jumping on my head, a few of which were this species of lemur. These lemurs have a very loud call that can be heard up to a half-mile away. Once one member of the group starts calling, others often join in. I experienced that! Happy Halloween... as a Halloween treat, today's post is of a Rodrigues Fruit Bat, in "on fire" special effect. These lovely creatures are endangered. In the 1970s, the world population of Rodrigues fruit bats dropped to less than 100. Today, the species is recovering with more than 20,000 individuals, thanks in part to @philadelphiazoo work with The Rodrigues Environmental Educator Project. Hippos! This is a Hippo thru Impasto Painting process on canvas... and learn a little about these magnificent animals, see below.

Hippos. The @philadelphiazoo has Cindy and Una. This is a photo of one of them. Isn't she pretty? Pretty but can be deadline. iDd you know Hippos are pretty dangerous in the wild? Also in the wild, hippos will graze on grass, herbs and leaves. They prefer to eat at night so that their sensitive skin is protected from the sun. Meet Gus. He too was at the @philadelphiazoo when i got this shot. I love Giraffes! This special effects process on the photo is called dadaism. Giraffes are the tallest animal on the planet! They can grow to be between 14 and 18- foot- tall. Their legs alone are taller than many people at six -foot-long. Cheetahs....one of my favorites. Brotherly Love. I got this photo at the @philadelphiazoo many years back, and never could capture it again. I used the "surrealism" special effect, I think it looks cool. What do you think? Did you know that cheetah is the fastest land mammal, but 3 birds are faster? can you name one? The cheetah is capable of speed bursts of up to 70 mph. Cheetahs can reach 45 mph in two seconds or two strides. These animals can sustain their top speed for short bursts. Tigers are the largest big cats in the world, and Amur tigers are the biggest of the tiger subspecies. Amur tigers can grow to 12 feet long, from nose to the tip of their tail. Looking forward to sharing my photography of Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Although I did not see the elusive Yellowstone wolves this trip. I felt their presence going through Lamar Valley. On our way back up from Grand Tetons we took the west side outside of the park where we went through Idaho. Saddened to learn about this new law against wolves. Trying to give facts here not emotion or embellishment. Wolves are so misunderstood. We have to learn to co-exist.
