So the first cow to walk to her was her mama but when all of the other Mamas were curious, she lost interest. I don’t know, maybe it’s a secret in the cow world that if you act like this, the farmer takes you and the baby to the barn for your very own postpartum suite. That’s exactly what happened. Mama begrudgingly walked behind every other cow when they were brought up but thankfully she was willing to go in to the barn and nurse her baby. Just like with humans , the first feedings of colostrum are very important for the health of the calf. The two will have constant checks throughout the day by Jake and Luke. Luke is so much like his grandfather;George. He doesn’t want any strangers in the barn or talking. He wants a very soothing experience.
Sometimes in the animal world Mama’s don’t always do the right thing. This newborn was found by Jake and Luke cold and wet yesterday. The Mama should have cleaned her up immediately after birth. She chose to walk away. The guys weighed her, tagged her and dried her and then took her in the toast warm shop to get her temperature up.
