KMAW Woodworks
KMAW Woodworks is a family ran hobby. We don't build things for a living, just simply for the joy.
It has been a long slow journey but the tressle table is finally done!!! Solid black walnut finished with an oil wax blend.
The slow progress continues, but it is progress.
Threaded inserts for attaching the legs have been added and the first coat of finish is on the bottom side.
That time of year. Time to turn some pens.
First pin started, 3 more to go. I'll turn the rest and then they need a small taper to help them wedge into place.
Been a while but found some time to work on the table. Tressel is mainly shaped, just needs a little more work on the ends. Also got the feet made and attached to the legs. Next step, make some pegs that will wedge everything together.
Trestle test fit done. Needs a little more shaping and the mortises for the wedges that'll hold it in place.
Decided the shop needed some more tunes. So a little MDF, some time with the CNC and a Bluetooth receiver later I ended up with this.
Been a little while since I've had a chance to work on the table. Ripping and prepping the boards that'll be the trestle.
Finished this one up the other day. The CNC was a big help on it.
Test fit is done. Now to print a lot more brackets.
Paid more for a sheet of plywood then ever before ($170 for a full sheet, about 5x10ft). Then I cut it up into little pieces. 🤪
Making progress. Took 7 versions to get it how I wanted it. Never bothered tuning in the CNC till this one because I didn't need to for other projects. There's still more adjustments I can make but that will wait till it's needed too. 😄
Learning some more on the CNC. Trying different settings on some scrap wood before cutting the plaque for the shadowbox.
Frame glued up and a quick test fitting. Did hidden splines on the mitered corners to reinforce their strength. This thing should hold up for a very long time.
Managed a little more work on the shadowbox. Stained the matting, cut the backing and plexiglass, and got the frame pieces built. Up next, cut the frames to their final lengths that glue them up.
New project in the works. Shadowbox for a co-worker.
Took a break from table making to do some Christmas gifts. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Gave the legs a little more style. Still have a little more clean up and adding the feet to the bottom before they are completed.
Make more progress onthe table legs. Next step is to attach all the pieces of the leg together.
Made some more progress on the legs. Have their basic shape minus the top and bottom plates. Later they will get a chamfer, after checking the fit of everything.
Doing some pattern routing for the table legs. This bit is crazy scarry but does a great job.
A mockup of one sides leg to check measurements and proportions.
Update time:
Slab for the top has been prepared and the bottom is all sanded and ready for finish. Top needs more sanding but I'll do that after I flip it again. Testing a couple of scrap pieces to see what finishing method looks best before applying it.
Milling out the leg pieces while the test pieces dry.
And the two have become one. May they live till eternity in this manner.
Day 2 of flattening the slabs: both slabs are flat and at the same thickness. Unfortunately the sawdust piles are growing and at this rate I may not be able to find my way out of the shop.
Tomorrow I'll try attaching them together.
