Reading the classics

One day while vacuuming, my daughter begged me to let her vacuum. Claire loves to "vacuum". Doesn't your child? So why not hand it over and let them vacuum letters?!
Cut out small square pieces of paper (as small as possible so your vacuum doesn't clog) and write letters on them. Say the letter aloud and have your child find and vacuum up the letter. As they progress, you can change it up a bit by saying the letter sound instead of the name.

Once your child knows some of their letter sounds, they can begin blending them together! When you child is sounding a word, they will say each (letter) sound in the word slowly first, then say the sounds together fast. This takes a lot of practice, so let's make it fun with race cars!

In fact, rhyming is a key indicator on how successful a child will be in early years of school. Lucky, most children enjoy rhyming activities and will pick it up naturally. First your child will learn to distinguish if two words rhyme. With enough practice, your child will later be able to come up with a rhyme on their own.

This is my favorite activities for teaching kids how to blend sounds together so they can later sound out words!!
Tactile learning activities help children concentrate and engage in learning this new skill. This activity teaches the valuable skill of separating words into sounds and syllables while providing the visual element of sound boxes. Kids that struggle with this literacy skill will often have difficulty with reading.

I recently returned from a family trip to Disney World and had a wonderful time. Claire loves to explore nature so of course the butterfly exhibit at Epcot was a huge hit. This brilliant little lady used flowers (found on the ground) to catch/hold butterflies.
❤❤These word slider are perfect for practicing word families! (I struggled to hold my phone why moving the sliders 😂)
