Has this ever happened to you?

You have to ask a patient to sign a consent and you only find the Spanish version to give to the patient. But you don't read Spanish and you are randomly browsing through the document, trying to find the key words.

It happened to me yesterday with a doctor, I helped her read and translate the document so she knew where to sign and other basic things before returning to her patient.

So today I'm going to talk to you about consents in Spanish and key words to know to avoid making mistakes if you don't have an English version at hand.

EL CONSENTIMIENTO INFORMADO EN ESPAÑOL Tienes que pedir a un paciente que firme un consentimiento informado y solo encuentras la versión en español para dar al paciente. Pero tú no lees español y vas navegando a ciegas por el documento, intentado descifrar las palabras clave.

A lot of Spanish speaking families come to the ER registration bringing a note from the school counselor, social worker, or psychologist saying that after a therapy session or an interview with their son or daughter, they are concerned that the student is in danger of harming themself or making an attempt on their life. The school then suggests that the student see an emergency psychiatrist for an evaluation.

🌟 I'm going to give you a summary of the phrases I most commonly hear in these situations.

que tienen una enfermedad pulmonar o cardíaca crónica o

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a respiratory virus that can cause some children to become very sick and have trouble breathing.

If you are around an infant or young child, especially those born prematurely, are very young, have chronic lung or heart disease, or a weakened immune system, take extra care to protect them from RSV:

- Cover your coughs and sneezes
- Keep your hands off your face
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Stay home when you are sick
- Clean and disinfect surfaces
- Wash your hands often
