As Black History Month comes to a close, we would like to share a beautiful interpretation of the poem “Me Gritaron Negra!” choreographed by our very own Ms. Paola and performed by LAMB alumna Patricia Bautista-Wheeler. Reliving this poem by Afro-Peruvian choreographer, composer and activist Victoria Santa Cruz– a poem that relates the experiences of a girl discovering the power in the color of her own skin– is our way of honoring, through music and movement, our Afro-Latino community and the incredible journey that LAMB has shared with each of our students, families and employees of African descent. Ahora que el Mes de la Afrodescendencia llega a su fin, nos gustaría compartir una hermosa interpretación del poema “¡Me Gritaron Negra!” coreografiado por nuestra propia Sra. Paola e interpretado por la alumna de LAMB Patricia Bautista-Wheeler. Revivir este poema de la coreógrafa, compositora y activista afroperuana Victoria Santa Cruz –un poema que relata las experiencias de una niña que descubre el poder en el color de su propia piel– es nuestra forma de honrar, a través de la música y el movimiento, a nuestra comunidad afrolatina y el increíble viaje que LAMB ha compartido con cada uno de nuestros estudiantes, familias y empleados afrodescendientes.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! We are so excited to take this month to recognize all the diverse cultures we have here at LAMB, honor our Latin American roots, and celebrate with our community. A special thanks to our very own Homar Peña aka “El Charro Minero” for kicking off our celebrations. ¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana! Estamos muy emocionados de aprovechar este mes para reconocer todas las diversas culturas que tenemos aquí en LAMB, honrar nuestras raíces latinoamericanas y celebrar con nuestra comunidad.
