Full Webinar: Enacting an Extreme Risk Protection Order in Pennsylvania This forum will highlight the importance of enacting an extreme risk protection order (ERPO) in Pennsylvania. ERPOs, also called extreme risk laws, exist in 19 states and D.C. ERPOs are civil orders modeled off of domestic violence protection orders that temporarily remove a firearm from an individual at risk of self-harm or interpersonal violence. Extreme risk laws should focus on criteria that are known to indicate an individual’s risk of dangerous behavior (ie recent threats or acts of violence, a history of stalking, violations of protective orders), not mental illness. Panelists will review research evidence that helps identify who may be at elevated risk of violence and will highlight the role that many stakeholders can play in enacting ERPOs. The panel will feature advocates, clinicians, law enforcement, and veteran perspectives. After brief presentations, the invited audience is encouraged to participate in a question and answer session. The panel will be moderated by Lisa Geller, State Affairs Manager at theEducational Fund to Stop Gun Violence and Adam Garber, Executive Director of CeaseFirePA. Panelists will include: * Lauren Footman, EFSGV's Director of Outreach and Equity * Jack Rozel, MD, MSL, Medical Director, resolve Crisis Services of UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital * Chris Carita, Detective, South Florida * Lee Wagner, Veteran, Murrysville, PA * Taylor Kleffel, Manager, State Policy, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
