It's definitely fall when the time changes!

They might have a little grey in their hair, but that just means they are wise! Senior pets have much love left to give and deserve to live out their lives in the comfort of a forever home. There are so many reasons to adopt a senior pet: you already know their personality (you never know what you'll get with a young one), most older pets have lived in homes before so they are housebroken, and most importantly, it saves lives!

It is becoming more common for people to make their own pet food. It's nice to know exactly what's in there! Today is National Cook for Your Pets Day, so show appreciation for your best fur friends by making a special meal. Include the whole family, including the kids, to teach them about pet nutrition. Get the pets involved by having them act as taste testers so you know when you get the flavor just right!

Who is excited about Halloween tomorrow? Many people want to include their pets in the festivities, but some are better indoors in a quiet space away from strangers and noise. If your pets are wearing costumes, make sure they are OK with being dressed up and remember costumes must fit well, allowing for comfort, and cannot interfere with pets' breathing, hearing, sight or smell.

Maddie is a Lakeland Terrier! One of the older British terriers, this breed has a loving personality and does well as family dogs, as long as their energy and intellectual needs are met. Lakeland Terriers have a wired double coat that sheds minimally and doesn’t produce much dander, so they are good for those with allergies!

It's National Black Cat Day! If you are lucky enough to be owned by one of these house panthers, then you know that black cats will bring much joy to your home!

Trick or treat! Give me something good to eat! Preheat oven to 350. Peel, slice & boil sweet potato for 15 minutes. Mash when cool & combine all ingredients in a bowl. Refrigerate dough for 15 minutes. Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness and use Halloween cookie cutters. Lay on parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 22-25 minutes. Allow to fully cool before service to your pets.

National Make a Dog's Day encourages dog parents to show their pups extra love & care & reminds us to consider adopting a pet from a shelter instead of buying one!

National Pets for Veterans Day started with a dog named Bear! Bear knew how to interact with veterans based on their individual needs. Bear’s owner realized pet therapy at home would be beneficial so she set out to help veterans find their own Bear and created a special day designed to bring shelter animals in need of homes in contact with veterans who need companionship. What a wonderful idea!

Look at Maddie's precious little calico face! Did you know that calico is not a breed, but a pattern with the usual colors of white, black & orange (although other colors may be present). Several different breeds can have a calico pattern. Male calicos are very rare!

National Fetch Day is one of our favorite days of the year! Not just because of the name, but because it encourages people to spend extra time with their pooches, having fun and getting fresh air and exercise. All of these things improve health and mental well-being!

Halloween is two weeks away, so don't wait too long to prepare your pets' costumes! Ensure your pets enjoy being dressed up (some love it, but some don't!) and the costume is appropriate, fits well, and allows for comfort!

Global Cat Day is a day aimed at raising awareness to save cat lives, prevent harm and encourage neutering and spaying of cats, especially those outdoors, to help reduce the homeless cat population! There are many ways to participate: adopt, volunteer, and spread the word!
