Since our founding in 1999, we have grown significantly and added new services to support immigrants in detention. Recently, CAIR Coalition has outgrown our name, expanding beyond our initial services and geographic boundaries.

“Amica” is the Latin word for “friend,” and that echoes the way we approach what we do. Just as friends stand with one another, Amica Center stands with our clients to achieve the safety, stability, and opportunity we all deserve.

Did you know that ICE continues to detain immigrants for months after they have won protection from deportation? In this video, CAIR Coalition Senior Attorney Austin Rose explains how ICE uses this unjust and inhumane practice. CAIR Coalition’s Immigration Impact Lab, along with ACLU of Virginia and the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild, is currently challenging this practice through a class action lawsuit so impacted people can be freed from detention and reunite with their families once again.

Thanks to all those who join the #NoAsylumBan Rally in DC today! On Tuesday, The Biden Administration proposed new restrictions forcing people fleeing violence and persecution to schedule appointments before arriving at the border via a mobile app riddled with technological issues. Otherwise, they must stop and apply for asylum in countries with weak or non-existent protections. CAIR Coalition and many other organizations at the rally denounce this new proposed asylum rule, which will severely limit access to asylum for those arriving at the Southern border.
