DSLR Workshops by Okello Dunkley
Classes online and in person. https://www.udemy.com/user/okello-dunkley-2/
My workshops are designed for the average frustrated DSLR owner that just wants to figure out how to take the type of photos you know your camera is capable of.
Just noticed I have “Amazon’s Choice” on my listing.😲🥳 The cool part is the new version is coming soon and this one will pale in comparison! If you already bought one of these, you’re an OG and I’ll get you set up with the new one for cheap. 😉
I need your help! To my people that have purchased the cheat sheets or cheat cards, how do you use it when you’re taking photos? What part is the most useful and what part don’t you use?
A new version is on the way soon and here are some of the improvements so far:
The strap mounted card material will be a more flexible (therefore easier to attach), waterproof and more tear resistant. It will also have easier to read larger graphics and fonts.
The cards will also be catered to specific camera types, like Canon T series, Nikon DX00 series etc.
Also, new illustrations by an amazing artist in Barcelona! Here’s a little sun to start your day from the upcoming cards.
I still would like your help though! If you have any things you love or needed improvements, post them in the comments and stay tuned!
Today is the day! Launching at noon, "Take Your Camera Off Auto Mode!" is online for FREE! I'll be in the chat for the premiere for those of you that want to check it out today. This class has been behind a paywall since I recorded it so it's exciting to get it out to the masses. This is a Canon version and I'll wait a couple of days for feedback before releasing the other 4 versions for Nikon and Sony. The content is the same except the camera setting inserts so if you already know how to change your ISO, aperture and shutter speed you can watch any version.
Please like, subscribe and share it with anyone you know that's fed up with auto mode!🙌🏽🤣

Ready for the other BIG ANNOUNCEMENT?! My class, "Take Your Camera Off Auto Mode!", which most of you in here have taken (and probably forgotten by now🤣) will be posted on YouTube and free to watch for everyone! The date is September 1st since I have to do a little editing and separating into chapters to get it ready for public scrutiny.😱 It will be the entire 2 hour class with individual classes for various camera brands.
I've looked around on YouTube for videos on shooting manual mode and most of them are less than 20 minute overviews so I am looking at the demographic with an attention span.🤞 I'm really excited to get it out into the world and see how it does! I will post the link as soon as it's ready so you can get your cameras dusted off in time!😅 Please share this and the link once it's out with everyone you think may be interested and I'll update the comments in this post as well. See you in class!🤓
Big Announcement today! (And tomorrow!) The new Manual Mode Cheat Card is being printed and will be released next week! Attend a free manual mode workshop 12pm January 21st at the Tyson's Corner Hilton when you buy the new cheat sheet on Amazon! Details in the comments.
Photography Manual Mode Cheat Sheet for DSLR Cameras and Mirrorless. Exposure Guide for ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed for Taking Better Photos The Day & Night Exposure Guide and Manual Mode Cheat sheet has two helpful cheat sheets on both sides. The Manual Mode DSLR Cheat Sheet side shows you how to set up your camera and then guides you through the settings you will use to shoot in manual mode and what to do if your photo doesn’t look ....
Here are a few manual mode tips using my new cheat sheet. Has anyone received theirs yet in the mail? Excited to see some photos using it from all over the US!
I introduce to you fresh off the press... The Day & Night Exposure Guide and Manual Mode DSLR Cheat Sheet! So what do you think?
Just started shipping the 2-sided cheat sheets today. If you ordered one of the minis or the posters, those will go out next week. Can't wait for you to get them! I still have deal on them until I run out of the first printing run. Free shipping to anywhere in the world.
Last post about the cheat sheet and last day to get a discount!
I’m happy to announce that DSLR workshops has signed an agreement with BH Photo to sell the cheat sheet in their MEGA NYC store and on their site! I couldn’t be more excited and maybe if I sell a million of them I will recoup half of the money I’ve spent there.🤣
We will be shipping next week for sure. I wanted to make sure it was perfect since the first printing will be for a lot of them. Just had to make sure it prints to the edges on the side you see and the rounded corners don’t cut off the sun and moon.
Today is the last day to save $5 via the link in the comments and then they will be $14.99. Everything is on sale (posters and mini cheat sheets) until midnight tonight so get your last minute orders in. Make sure you take anything out of your cart that you don’t want.
I appreciate everyone that has purchased so far and sorry it’s a little late, but I’m sure you will love the results!

The cheat sheet is done and here’s the proof! Literally, here’s the proof from the printer Indigo Ink. What do you think?! (The one in the right is the 2-sided one) I’ve tried to incorporate as many as your wants and I’m so proud to put this out in the world. I had an amazing artist named Bojana in Serbia take my concepts and turn it into this beautiful and functional piece. I think it’ll help anyone struggling with manual model and give you the confidence to shoot manual all the time.💪🏽 There are two more days to the presale and they will be shipping at the end of the week fresh off the press. Follow the link in the comments for a discount and if you miss the presale I’ll post a link to my new Etsy store next week, but I’d say get your early Holiday gifts now at a discount.🎃😁🎄🎁🎃
PS: the proof is a bit dark so they are going to make another one for tomorrow and then we’ll print so I might be a day or two over the October 20th release date but it was worth the wait.🥳
PS #2: Today’s my birthday!🥳🥳🥳
Super small preview of the cheat sheet!

Three things about the cheat sheet:
1. The version here is not complete! It is only a layout made on a computer. The final version will be hand drawn and in color. I will look much better than here. Worth of framing.
2. There will be examples in the blank rectangles. Shutter speed blur, ISO noise, background blur and focus points will have their own examples
3. It is like two cheat sheets in one. The top (or one side) will tell you which way to go if your image is too bright or dark and the bottom (reverse side) will tell you where you should start or move your settings in varying lighting.
I hope you are as excited as I am to see the final, but I've seen some of the sketches and I know you will be blown away. Not to mention it will be useful in may situations! I've read all of your comments multiple times on my original post asking what you're looking for in a cheat sheet and I think most of your wants are covered!

This might be a long post, but the short version is, the 5.5”x8.5” double sided and 12”x18” poster sized Manual Mode Cheat Sheet and Day & Night Exposure Guide is available to order through this link and it will be shipped October 20th! It’s a long name, but it does a lot. There are two parts: the first part walks you through the steps to shoot in Manual Mode and the other side has a quick reference guide based on your lighting (the day/night part). Please read to the end if you would like to order.
When I asked here on Facebook what you wanted in a cheat sheet, I really had no idea what I was going to do. I was just hoping it came to me when I read your comments and luckily it did. I have seen quite a few things and inventions over time and I’ve said, “I wish I had thought of that!” But now I can say, I thought of this.😊 So the pre-sale is up and I don’t have a picture to show you because the artist is currently drawing it from the computer layout, but I can tell you it will be helpful and beautiful. It has examples of how shutter speed, ISO and aperture affect your image. It gives you a guide for single point focusing and it gives you an easy guide on what to move if your photo is too bright or dark. If you don’t like the cheat sheet for any reason, I will send you a full refund. I’ve put them up for a discounted price, because I do realize I’m selling you something you can’t even see yet, but I am looking forward to everyone getting an exciting unknown quantity in the mail just like the old days! So get them now and I’ll ship them to you myself on October 20th, but after the pre-sale they will only be available on Amazon. But on here is way more exciting, isn’t it?! The full color double sided cheat sheet comes in a flexible durable vinyl and the poster is on matte paper.
Pre-Sale Price : $10 ($12.99) for Vinyl 2-Sided Cheat Sheet $20 ($24.99) 12”x18” Poster with Shipping Included
PLEASE NOTE: On Stripe, I must have each quantity at 1 in the cart in order for it to appear so you need to change the quantity to 0 for any product that you don’t want. I’m not trying to get people to buy both, but it is a limitation of using Stripe directly from Facebook and not having to have a page built for a limited time pre-sale. If you only want the cheat sheet, click details (top right) and change the quantity of the poster two 0 and your cart will be $10. Sorry for the inconvenience! And please make sure your physical snail mail address is correct since that’s where I’ll be mailing it.😄
DSLR Workshops AboutStill Trying To Figure Out Your DSLR? I created a photography class that’s easy to understand, doesn’t overwhelm, but gives just enough info to give you an understanding and the confidence to take your camera off Auto Mode! Take Your…
A little sneak peek and one last question about the cheat sheet! Would you rather have a one-sided letter sized (8.5"x11") OR half that size printed front and back (5.5"x8.5")? A few things about it:
The release date is October 20th
Pre-sale starts tomorrow at a discounted price
It will be in full color in a vintage style
There will be a smaller durable laminated version and a 12"x18" poster that will be worthy of framing
There will be a top that explains your camera settings and a bottom that lays out what settings work in different lighting. There will also be examples of how your ISO, aperture and shutter speed affect you image.
I AM EXCITED
But back to the question since they don't have polls for pages. Letter Sized or Half that size printed on both sides? Please vote below and look for the pre-sale tomorrow!

A cheat sheet and new class update: I have a very talented artist working on the cheat sheet and it will be released by the end of the month! I’m sure you were wondering why I posted images of a French press pouring coffee, but now you know that’s one of many drawings that made me fall in love with the artist’s style and decide that they were the right person to draw out my vision. Now, I don’t want to give away too much but it will be EPIC and beautiful. Worthy of hanging on any wall.
I also surprised myself a little and was able to lay out Manual Mode settings in a very simple that made a lot of sense in varied lighting. So much so that the artist even had some photography a ha moments during our Zoom call. It was after that when I decided I definitely could teach this in an hour! So the first class called Manual Mode in an Hour (which is actually 1 hour and 15 minutes, but I’ll work on that) will be held in Tysons Corner Wednesday October 5th at 6PM. The cost is $29 and the cheat sheet will be included! So if you’re rusty in Manual Mode, this is definitely the class for you. The link to sign up is in the comments. Oh yeah, it's on a new web site which I haven't even announced yet, but things have been busy!
OK, time to test Version 3.0 of the cheat sheet. I might get a little annoying with these posts, but I need to have it exactly the way I want before it goes to the designer. I think I'm really close even though there has been a lot of change from the last one. This time I'm looking for people that are actually able to test it out today or tomorrow and send me some feedback by Monday morning. That doesn't mean you have to go somewhere nice and take spectacular photos... Just test it in your house or your backyard and put a little time in so I know how it works in the real world. You can direct message me your email. Thank you once again!
The cheat sheet is coming together! But, I'm curious... has anyone who has received a test version actually used it out shooting? I'd love to hear some real life results'
I will post a link soon for a waiting list to download a PDF version on my website for free. So comment and like the posts about the cheat sheet because I will be posting the link on them soon!
I need some testers for my new cheat sheet! It's not finished yet, but I need some feedback on my rough mock up before I give it to the graphic designer to make it look all pretty. I just want to make sure it makes sense since I've created something that's different than the cheat sheets I've seen people with. I need about 20 people that are able to provide feedback, preferably by tomorrow. If I've already reached the limit, just like or comment on this post and I'll make sure everyone gets a message once the final version is out. It will be free.
Edit: You can direct message since I see I can't message a file to commenters and will respond with the cheat sheet. Thanks!
I'm putting together a one page Manual Mode cheat sheet with pics and infographics to give out after class since I know people like to keep a reference in their camera bags.
1. What is something you frequently find yourself looking up that helps you with your settings?
2. Do you have a takeaway from the class that has stuck with you and helped you stay in Manual Mode?
3. What are some of your post class struggles?
Feel free to answer any or all of the questions and I will see which concepts I can manage to fit. I will be sending a copy of the cheat sheet to anyone that comments on this post and you don't have to answer the questions. Just type any comment and I'll send it through FB messenger once I'm done!
This is going to sound crazy, but I need your advice on what you use to edit your RAW photos! I taught a couple of classes this weekend and in doing them I realized that my editing process is a bit complicated for me to teach to people that are just getting into shooting RAW files for the first time. I currently still use Lightroom 6 since I really don't like the idea of spending $9.99/month for something I don't use every month and I really don't find any shortcomings with it. The only issues I have is when I need to edit files from newer DSLRs. In that case, I will sign up for Adobe Lightroom Creative Cloud for a month and convert all of the files to DNGs and then use LR6 to edit.
I can't in good conscience recommend that people who just learned what RAW files are to start paying $9.99/month to start editing something they don't know how to edit. I can't recommend people use LR6 which was released in 2015 and isn't updated anymore and doesn't support newer cameras. I told them to use the software that comes with their cameras, but that's a temporary solution. So what's a low cost software or one with a one time only price that you use to edit? Are some of you paying or LR Creative Cloud? I'm curious to hear your opinions!
I guess this is considered bragging so I apologize in advance. 😬🤣 When I first posted my workshop online with Udemy during the pandemic, I was worried about how it would translate online since I took anything funny out of it because telling jokes into a camera to one person is as my 13 yo daughter would say, “so cringe.” But, this week I was reading reviews and realized oh, I guess people still like it.😲 But then, I was curious so I sorted all of the digital photography classes by rating and I was shocked to see I came up first! I even took a screenshot just in case I refreshed and dropped down a few spots!😄 With that said, I'm back doing live classes with the fun parts put back in and chances are I'll be in a city near you.💛
I have an announcement! Now that things have opened up and I've moved back to the US after living in Vienna, Austria for the last 7 years, I'll be back to doing DSLR classes all over the US starting with the East Coast. I uploaded a video version of my classes on Udemy during the pandemic and as you can see it's the top rated class among thousands when you search digital photography so I've still got my fastball and I'm ready to restart live classes!
A Boston class on August 13th will be posted later today and in the next couple of days, NYC, Philadelphia and Tysons Corner VA will follow. More cities to come and I'll be happy to take requests. Looking forward to seeing old and new customers!😁
