TWC alum TevinAli shares his story on rising above the struggles as a first-generation college student from a low-income background. "In the US, less than 40% of students who enroll in college for the first-time graduate in 4 years. And for first-gen students that stat drops to 1 in 17 if they come from Low-Income families earning under $35,000. At one time I was part of that statistic of College Drop-Outs. My opportunities were limited and challenges harder. What kept me standing was faith in myself to make a difference and the belief/sacrifices others put in me. My story is one of many. This video on my educational journey is bigger than me. There are students every day who have the potential to do incredible things but don’t have the support and finances to back-up their potential. If I wasn’t granted a second chance at an education and had the support of so many I wouldn’t be standing today. My journey wasn’t easy, but there is nothing I wouldn’t change because it led me to my today… In a position to empower others through their struggles as a speaker and change agent. Never look down on anyone because they could be someone who just needs a second chance like I did. Still so thankful to you, The Washington Center, and so many on the team for changing my life."
