Fellow designers, do you outsource procurement?
Ever look at one of your portfolio photos and tally up the sheer volume of vendors, tasks, emails and follow up it took to pull that room together? It can be overwhelming. It can also be incredibly freeing when you update your process.

Are you an aspiring designer?
Who loves a good before and after?
This guest bedroom needed something to pull it out of its ordinary, uninspired state.
Wallpaper on the ceiling in a soft blue watercolor hue definitely upped the interest factor in a room with little architectural detail.
Swapping the small flush mount light fixture for a larger scale chandelier anchored the room. We hung it without the chain to hug the ceiling.
Mixing the client’s antique finds with new pieces that felt like antiques, pulled it all together.
The soft blue monochromatic color palette allowed the mixing of patterns without feeling busy or too bold for a restful space!
A fluffy bed does the trick too.
Imagine the snowy views of the countryside outside this weekend 🩵.

Guest room but elevated neutrals with a country house vibe. Does your guest room look like swipe to the left? Here are some quick tips:
1) a statement bed (hello Saltwater !)
2) larger handwoven rug
3) paint the trim! Hard to see here but the doors and windows are this delicious mushroom color- instant upgrade!
4) swap a fan for a statement pendant- this one is a work of art from
Lastly drapery! Oh the magic of drapery in a beautiful patterned linen.

Does your bathroom look like (swipe left)?? Stay with me..
Here are 3 key steps to our glow up:
1) The floor!! Smaller, brighter white marble saved the day instantly upgrade.
2) Swapped tub for a glass shower. Opened up the space and doubled the size visually.
Cleaner and brighter look and more conducive to our homeowner’s lifestyle.
3) Vanity with legs- airy, updated and very cost effective from a ready- made retail source (!!??!?) yep.
I have to say the paint color and styling with art 🖼️ mini handwoven rug in lieu of basic bath mat really took this one over the finish line. In fact, I actually changed the paint color to this rosey hue AFTER the bathroom was painted white initially. It needed some warmth and softness.
Will you tackle a bathroom this year?? DM me your thoughts.

How did back to reality go for everyone this week?? Head down Friday over here!
But an office like this one from our Warrenton project, sure makes it easier to spend your day cranking it out at the desk.

How does the tradition go??
When the clock ⏰ strikes midnight, you let the old year out the back door… and let the new year in by opening the front door.
I’m ready to let the promise of 2024 in the front door with all its potential 🥂. 2023 put us through the wringer. Time to put it to bed.
And today is 123123 🤯🥳! Happy New Year’s Eve everyone- wishing you all good things in 2024!
Biggest decorating mistake??
I’ll tell ya. ..
(Swipe to see before photos.)
The biggest decorating mistake is playing small or ignoring entirely your window treatments.
Now, I know in some situations with big modern picture windows you’re not going to cover them, but for most homes and most typical windows, you can elevate your entire space with the right window treatments. By “right” I mean, drapery panels that extend the height of the window, typically we hang them 2/3 of the way above the frame (here we actually hung them on the crown given other variables with older windows and maximizing the height).
The width and weight and height are all proportional to the window and room design. See before photos: they had little balloon valances playing small. Making the windows smaller and everything seem busier and dated. Long drapery panels hung above the frame, with bespoke brackets here that hug the trim by literally and figuratively elevating the space. Zoom in to see the greek key trim on leading edge.. beautiful!!

See the repeat of pattern here? Peek inside the room…
It’s one of my favorite moments from this project 💚. I do love green. I especially love a good layering of textures.
We fell in love with this bird pattern and were thrilled it came in both a wallpaper and a fabric. So we could use it to create a jewel box moment in the hallway of white walls + closet doors and then again as beautiful drapery in the primary bedroom. I love the repetition without feeling too much of the same. The grasscloth in a fresh grass green really paired well with the fabric and paper pattern.
We didn’t stop there and found the “not easy to find” perfect handwoven rug that tied everything together and brought in some coppery tones adding that color tension we love too.
It’s cozy week. Let’s jump in here and never leave 🩵.

You are NOT going to believe this was the same room. Because I can barely believe it!
Here’s the coziest, luxe + layered library meets TV 📺 room ever.
Swipe left to see the before.
Curl up in chocolate velvet down cushions. Let your bare feet sink into the wool and silk handwoven rug. And feel the warmth from the fireplace 🔥 as you prop yourself up on these fluffy custom pillows for a movie 🍿 sesh. Our coffee table shelf is stocked with board games underneath the glass top - whatever floats your cozy boat. Moody, rich and oh so inviting.
Let’s spend the holidays here under a furry blanket.
Merry everything 💙 to you.

Which one are you?
Team paint the trim?
Or team leave the trim alone?
Painting the trim, millwork and windows a historical green TRANSFORMED this dining room. Yes this is the dining room! It is such a long room that we created this lovely coffee ☕️ and cocktail 🍸 swivel chair situation right next to the kitchen. On the opposite side of the room is a gorgeous round antique dining table for 10.
Now we have a dining room we can use on the daily. Not off-limits, not just for holidays (although is this a merry 🎄 room or what?!!)
Our flooring is indoor/outdoor! Come on in kids and puppy! Bring your food and drinks we are super chill about it because this space is both form and function.
We love it here.
Pull up a seat ❤️

Want to know a secret? 🤫
(This grasscloth is vinyl)
Yep, that means kids and friends can run amok worry-free. Scrub it, bump into it..
I dare you to try and make a scratch in it.
Imagine coming home to a space that’s not only beautiful, it’s designed for your lifestyle perfectly.
It can be yours.
Welcome home 🏡.

This is what I love about decorating..
(Swipe left to see what we started with)
Don’t be afraid to delete and edit.
Here I made the recommendation to remove the doors between the foyer / dining room and ditch the chair rail molding. That edit opened up the flow and eliminated a horizontal horizon line bisecting the height of the foyer walls.
In its place, I used a vertical stripe wallpaper to visually stretch those walls, elevating the whole space instantly. Literally and figuratively!
By painting the DR trim a historical green we kept the farmhouse antique vibe but modernized it for our young DC family. Major wow factor.
Layer, layer, layer.
You can be a maximalist and not feel chaotic by maintaining a repeating color palette. Here we used blues and greens reflecting the countryside views outside. Even though we went bold on our color palette spectrum in spots- it feels serene because it repeats and flows.. the human eye likes that.
Best part about decorating, is the transformation of the feeling you have living in the same four walls. How can color, pattern and a new furniture layout change so much? It’s simply magic 🪄.
