Creating a more human society where people with and without disabilities share life together
Rain only adds to our fun. ☔️ Though we didn't officially swim in Atlantis water park this year, we certainly enjoyed our time picnicking together at Bull Run Regional Park.

July has been fly! ☀️
There's no way to capture all the life we've lived this past month in just a few photos, but here's a snapshot 📸
[Image Descriptions] 1. Fritz doing all things Fritz while visiting his sister and brother-in-law. He's smiling, swimming in a blue lake, relaxing in a donut-colored float. 2. Kiana and Debora taking in a Beatles show Wolf Trap. Debora shows off her purple cup, and the sun shines bright behind the pair. 3. Arlington County Virginia – Government board meeting officially conveying the Reeves Farmhouse property to Habitat, kicking off renovations for our new home! A large projector screen above the board members reads, "Item #22 Reeves Farm House." 4. Mary sitting on the floor taking written and pictorial notes on a large piece of paper during an annual Inclusion Training. What do you think of when you hear the word inclusion? 5. Question: Can we shape a world that welcomes every person as a fully valued and meaningfully contributing member of society?
Answer: Yes, we can!
Let’s grow a more gentle, human world where core members fully participate in society and lead the life they want to live with assistant support.
Can we do this together? Yes, we can!

Now that it's official, renovations can begin. Building more spaces of belonging takes many partners and a variety of gifts, both donations and in-kind. With a green light for renovations, we thought this would be the perfect time to introduce you to a few key partners!

Fact: Almost 15,000 people with disabilities are on waiting lists for housing across Virginia.
The need is staggering. For years it’s been on our hearts to respond.
Very soon, we will see even more joy, life, and belonging when the Reevesland Farmhouse becomes a new L’Arche home! As the project moves forward, we’re more and more thankful for this property and the legacy of the Reeves family. They, too, valued home, family, and belonging.
Here’s Cheryl Scannell, daughter of Nelson and Louise Reeves, who lived and farmed here for almost 100 years. She shares more about her family’s story and her excitement for bringing Reevesland to life once again.
Your partnership will grow spaces of belonging as we renovate the Reeves Farmhouse into a new L’Arche home and seed a compensation fund that will grow year after year to provide equitable pay and benefits for our assistants.
Help us fill the gap. Give now: larche-gwdc.org/whatsnext-donate

We are adding a new L’Arche home to welcome more core members and assistants!
Creating more spaces of belonging has been on our heart for years. And now everything’s coming together!
1) We found a wonderful location: the historic Reeves Farmhouse in Arlington, VA.
2) We have amazing construction partners: Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. & Northern Virginia and HomeAid National Capital Region. And we are equally excited that HomeAid has recruited Toll Brothers as Builder Captain. They are graciously contributing labor and materials, which greatly offsets project costs.
3) The third and final piece of the project comes from faithful friends like you! Your support creates more spaces of belonging by raising $2M for What’s Next, our 40th anniversary capital campaign that covers the farmhouse renovations and seeds an assistant compensation and benefits fund.
What’s Next is only possible if you are part of it. We’ll share more details in the weeks ahead. Until then, we’d love to hear from you! Share what you are most excited about for What’s Next with L’Arche GWDC!

It's with sadness and celebration that we share that Fritz's Mom, Emmy Lu, died Sunday, May 5th. Emmy Lu was a dear friend, a published poet, an employee, and a leader in L'Arche for many years. As her daughter Lisanne shared, "She is probably singing her way through the pearly gates." Fritz loved his Mom dearly. Let us hold Fritz and Lisanne in our prayers, along with all of us who have experienced Emmy Lu's passion, humor, care, and love.

Who We Are
L'Arche GWDC is a community of people with and without intellectual disabilities who share their lives together.
We are an inter-denominational Christian community that welcomes people of all backgrounds to share life together. Community life is centered around four communal homes and the members who have intellectual disabilities, known as “core people.”
Each community member is encouraged to discover and deepen his or her spiritual life and live it according to his or her particular faith and tradition. Those who have no religious affiliation are also welcomed and respected in their freedom of conscience.
