Unleashed Joy: A Day at Staten Island Dog Garden
This week's focus on Placemaking takes us to Staten Island, where the Staten Island Board of Realtors (SIBOR) received a #REALTORParty Placemaking grant to transform the unused and unattractive entryway of the the Staten Island Animal Care Center into a welcoming dog park and scent garden. The center has an emotional tie to the community, as it is dedicated to a 9-year-old Staten Island resident who tragically passed away trying to save his pets from a house fire. Leading the country on Smart Growth for more than half a century, Arlington, Va. achieved a historic economic development success in 2017 – attracting Amazon’s second headquarters. Yesterday, #NARLegislative attendees took a walking tour of National Landing and heard from local experts on how this Northern Virginia neighborhood is a growing hub for walkability, multimodal transportation, nightlife, amenities, and more.
