Due to the weather, we will not be marching in the Memorial Day Parade today.

It continues to be an interesting year for weather! Due to the chilly conditions tonight, we are moving the Pops Concert into the auditorium. Students need to be at school by 6:30, and the concert will start at 7:00. Concert dress has been told to each group, so students should know what to wear.

Congratulations to Emma Riordan on winning the grand prize in our practice pass raffle! She got a personalized cookie cake, and the band directors joined her and her friends for lunch.

Congratulations to Makayla Rasmussen on being a state finalist for the Major Landers Scholarship. This award is given out every year by the Iowa Bandmasters Association to a high school student planning on majoring in music education at an Iowa college or university. She will receive a $1,000 scholarship!

We hope you can join us for the annual Band Banquet tonight beginning at 6:00 in the Commons. It is always fun to recap the year, acknowledge our seniors, give out awards and reveal the marching band show for next year. Hope to see you!

It was great to host the choirs and Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra from UNI to perform excerpts from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony today. What an amazing performance and experience!

Yesterday, the heads of our Concessions Crew attended the Mayor's Volunteer Award Luncheon. Congratulations to Stacie Mills and Vickie Bogart for being nominated for all their work for the Wahawk Band Program!

Our Wind Symphony had a great time performing for and with the Central Middle School Bands at their concert tonight! Here is Mr. Kleinheinz conducting the Central 8th Grade Band and the West Wind Symphony.

Congratulations to senior Makayla Rasmussen on winning first place in the Roy Schwab Scholarship competition! She won a $500 scholarship and will compete in Des Moines in May for an additional $1,000-2,500.

WEST STUDENT AWARDED SERVICE AWARD

West High School student Allison Brasch has been awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award. The award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, Prudential is proud to be able to present this prestigious award to Prudential Spirit of Community honorees who have met its requirements.



Brasch is a senior at West who has been involved in athletics, band, theater and is an International Baccalaureate student. Brasch will officially receive her President's Volunteer Service Award at the annual senior honors assembly held at West High School on Friday, May 10.

State bowling: West's Corcoran catches fire WATERLOO -- Waterloo West’s Tristan Corcoran started his second game with an open frame.

It’s Dallas Brass day at Waterloo West! Already had one rehearsal. Now it’s clinic time with over 400 students!

Our students did a great job performing at the Northern Festival of Bands at the University of Northern Iowa today!

We are braving the cold at UNI this weekend for the Northern Festival of Bands. There are 34 West High Band students between the three honor bands. Day one was great and ended with an ice cream social. Day two is off to a great start!

Due to the weather, there will be no pep band tonight, January 29.

We had a great time at Orange Elementary teaching the kindergarten students about drums. Meredith and Max did a great job working with these future band students!

We were fortunate to host the percussion quartet Clocks In Motion for their Day of Percussion. They led great sessions all day. Eight of students received coaching from these great musicians. Thanks to Dr. Coley for organizing the day.

Due to impending weather, rehearsal and All-State clinics for tonight (10/9) have been cancelled.

Congratulations to the Wahawk Marching Band for two good performances today. The students earned the band’s 30th consecutive division 1 rating at the State Marching Band Festival.
