Beautiful weather for the Firefly art show this past weekend. It was good to see those of you who came to see us.
A special shout-out to Troop 21, Wauwatosa Boy Scouts, who helped a tired old couple carry a lot of heavy stuff to our car. Ah, to be young again.
We are doing three shows this year, two in Wauwatosa and one in Sister Bay.
Firefly Art Fair - August 5-6 (10:00 to 6:00 both days) on the grounds of the historic Kneeland Walker House, 7406 Hillcrest Drive, Wauwatosa. It's our hometown show, at a lovely venue, with lots of vendors.
Door County Festival of Fine Arts - August 12 (9:00-4:00) on the Beach in Sister Bay. It's our alternate-hometown show, on the shores of Green Bay.
Tosa Fest - September 8-9 (5:00-11:00 P.M. Friday, 11:00 A.M.-8:30 P.M. Saturday), in the Wauwatosa Village. This is a first for us, but Tosa Fest is a lively event, with food vendors, arts and crafts vendors and music. Lots of fun!
We hope to see you at one of these shows.
C'MON, DON'T BE A CRAB. COME SEE US!
Halemaumau volcano erupted recently on The Big Island of Hawaii, and we were fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. It is awesome in its power. It’s no wonder that the Hawaiians attributed it to the work of a goddess, Pele.
Unfortunately the Starving Artist show was cancelled this morning, literally as we were walking out the door. Lots of fun taking down in the pouring rain, but we're warming up now.
This would have been our last show of the year, and we were hoping to offer deep discounts on framed photos that we are phasing out. So we want to give you the opportunity to buy them if you would like, at the show price. They are all matted with a white mat and framed with a black frame and glass. Sizes listed are the full size with frame. They are, in order:
Lake Superior Beach Stones. Two sizes - framed size 36 1/2 by 26 1/2 (originally $375, now $105), and 29 3/4 by 21 3/4 (originally $295, now $95)
Torch Ginger -36 1/2 by 26 1/2 (originally $375, now $105)
Garrett Bay in Fall - Torch Ginger -36 1/2 by 26 1/2 (originally $375, now $105)
Edmund Fitzgerald - 29 3/4 by 21 3/4 (originally $295, now $95)
Lady Slippers - 29 3/4 by 21 3/4 (originally $295, now $95)
Wild Horses - 17 by 22 1/2 (originally $150, now $70)
Hyacinth Macaw - 13 1/2 by 15 1/2 (originally $105, now $45)
If you are interested in purchasing one or more of these prints, please send us an email ([email protected]). You can also send a text or call (414)708-2370.
Go Pack!
The decision has been made to CANCEL this year's Starving Artists' Show.
We are so grateful to all who have donated their time, talent and treasure in preparing for this event, but the weather was simply not in our favor this year.
As many of you may know, the entrance fees collected go directly to student scholarship. Due to the cancellation, we are encouraging those interested to not only visit the artists' pages and shop small businesses, but also to consider making a donation in lieu of an entrance fee.

We are set up for tomorrow’s show at Mount Mary College in Tosa. We are Booth 52, which is in the far southeast corner of the grounds. Hope to see you there.
Our friend here would love to go to the Mount Mary Alumni Association Starving Artist show this Sunday, September 11, at Mount Mary College in Wauwatosa, 10-5. Unfortunately for him, though he clearly seems to be starving, he is not an artist so he can't come.
All artwork at the show must be priced at $125 or less, much of it for much less. We are selling some of the work that we no longer feature at most shows, so you will be able to get some great bargains on our discontinued items. In addition, we will be featuring our usual humorous cards, and matted, unframed work.
There are two entrances to the show. One is on N. 92nd Street just south of Burleigh. The other is off of Menomonee River Parkway, also just south of Burleigh.
This will be our last show of 2022, and we hope to see you there.

We’re set up in Sister Bay, and the rain has stopped. So come on down!
Super Moon tonight over Northport, Door County, Wisconsin.
WHAT! You mean you haven't heard that Jon Reddin Photography will be at the Door County Festival of Fine Arts this Saturday, August 13, from 9-4, on the lakefront in Sister Bay?
Well, now you do.
Hope to see our Door County followers there, and any others who might want to make a pleasant weekend journey to the Door Peninsula.
Michael Gabelman, endorsing Robin Voss’ primary opponent, is quoted as saying “Robin Voss never wanted a real investigation into the 2020 election in Wisconsin.” If that’s true, he couldn’t have picked a better person to conduct it.
We had a very hot but good weekend at our hometown Tosa show, Firefly art fair sponsored by the Wauwatosa Historical Society. Kudos to them for another successful show. And a shoutout to BSA Troop #21 for their help with tear down. As usual, they were a godsend.
It’s raining at the art show, but the intrepid CEO is not fazed.
We’re set up for the Firefly Art show with a new tent and new products. Looking forward to seeing you.
Going out on a limb next weekend. Our last show was in September of 2019, in the Beforetimes. The threat of Covid has kept us off the show circuit in the meantime. But throwing caution to the wind, we will be at the Firefly Art Show next Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7. This is our hometown show, and a favorite of ours. We will be featuring a new tent, new displays and hopefully good weather.
The show is on the grounds of the historic Kneeland-Walker House, 7406 Hillcrest Drive, Wauwatosa. For those of you familiar with Wauwatosa, it is a couple of blocks north of Tosa East HS. For those of you not so familiar, it is still a couple of blocks north of Tosa East HS. It runs 10-5 both Saturday and Sunday.
Hope to see you there

Hoping to do some shows in 2022 when the madness ends. Stay tuned.

On November 10, 1975, 46 years ago today, the ore freighter Edmund Fitzgerald was lost in a storm on Lake Superior, along with 29 souls. Time to remember once again.
And here’s the work product of the photographer at work.

Along with everyone else, we have been extremely frustrated with what the pandemic has done to us all. For our photo business it meant a year off, and we were very much looking forward to Firefly this weekend and Door County Festival of Fine Arts the next. It is with a heavy heart that we have withdrawn from both. Although Mary and I are fully vaccinated, it is becoming clear that with the surge in the delta variant we are at risk of contracting and/or transmitting the coronavirus anyway. We have young unvaccinated grandchildren, and cannot in good conscience attend an event, even outdoors, that will cause us to be in crowds.
Here’s hoping that the surge will finally convince enough of us to get vaccinated to finally end this nightmare, and that we can welcome you to our new booth and new products in 2022.
Stay safe.
On November 9, 1975, the Edmund Fitzgerald left Superior, Wisconsin, with a load of taconite bound for Detroit. Throughout the day and night a freakish storm hit Lake Superior and, on November 10, 1975, 45 years ago today, she was lost with 29 souls. The cause of her sinking is still debated, but her loss stands as a reminder of the perils faced by Great Lakes mariners.
On July 21, 1959, the almost new Edmund Fitzgerald, idled by a steel strike, was in Milwaukee for the first time, docking at Jones Island. It is then that I, a 14 year old high school freshman, took the attached picture of the boat.
We offer the image for sale, matted and ready for framing. The 4 by 6 image, matted to 8 by 10, is $20. The 8 by 10 image, matted to 11 by 14, is $30. The 10 by 16 image, matted to 18 by 24, is $50. We will include the cost of mailing.
We donate 10% of the sale price of that image, and have since we began selling it, to the Door County Maritime Museum in honor of those who sail the Great Lakes.
If you are interested, please let me know by email, [email protected].
Thanks, and stay safe. Jon & Mary
Happy Fall, such as it is. As you know, our 2020 season was cancelled due to the pandemic. It gave us a chance to retool and rethink our inventory. As part of that process we are phasing out our large framed prints (black frames, white mats), in favor of canvas and metal prints.
The largest size framed is about 27 by 37 inches. We normally sell those for $375. The smaller is 22 by 30 inches. We normally sell those for $275.
We are selling all of them now for $100 apiece. We have the following remaining:
Large: Torch Ginger, Lake Superior Beach Stones, Garrett Bay in Fall.Small: Beach, Waves and Bluff; Lady Slippers; Trillium; Torch Ginger; Lake Superior Beach Stones.
Thumbnails are attached.
If you are interested in purchasing any of these images please let us know by email at [email protected]. We deliver in the Milwaukee and Door County areas.
Thanks, and stay safe.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, Mary and I have decided to cancel our 2020 show season, which was not a particularly hard decision, since most of the shows have already been cancelled. Even if the ones in October are held, we don't feel that it would be safe to proceed until the current madness is over.
It is unfortunate, since we bought a new tent, have new display options and new products. But such is life, and it will have to wait for 2021. We hope to see you then.
In the meantime: We are putting a bunch of our no-longer-displayed items on sale, and have attached images that are for sale at greatly reduced prices if any of you are interested. Get back to us by email if you are, and we'll make arrangements to get the images to you.
Thanks for your support and understanding.
Jon & Mary
Just a note to say that we hope you and yours are doing well in these difficult times. We are fine, if a bit bored by the sheltering in place. Attached is a photo taken by our grandson, a budding photographer in his own right. It is a reminder to "never give up." This too shall pass. The 2020 show season is in some doubt, but we hope to see you later this year. Jon & Mary
We are reinventing ourselves this year, with plans to change our show display and to sell mostly canvas and metal prints. This means phasing out the framed prints that have been our mainstay for many years. You may have noticed the new photo, above, which reflects our new look. We have roseate expectations for this show season, and hope that you don't think we're trying to sell you a bill (ROSEATE SpoonBILL, get it?) of goods.
As part of our conversion to new products, we are discontinuing sale of our framed 20 by 30 inch photographs, and are offering those that are left, which we sold at shows for $375, for $100. They are about 7-8 inches larger on each dimension once you add the white mat and black frame. If you are interested in any of these images, thumbnails attached, please let us know by email ([email protected]). First come, first served.
Waning gibbous moon, one day after full. As the old saw goes, “we love da moon!”
New location. No not on the moon, on the sidewalk at the Third Ward Art Fest this weekend. We'd love to see you. Come out and enjoy art before Labor Day.
Thanks to all of the organizers and staff of the Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts, who made all of us artists feel welcome and watched out for our every need in a great weekend show. Hope to be back next year.
Relaxing on the swing before takedown. Great show!
We finished setting up as the sun set over Fowler Lake. Hope to see you tomorrow.
A beautiful day for an Art Fest in Whitefish Bay.
If its July 4 this must be Baileys Harbor. We’re here all week (at least until July 5). Come see us.
