We had so much fun celebrating our volunteers (that were able to join us) at the sf volunteer appreciation dinner. Huge thank you to our hosts Jim and Barbara Brink for their hospitality and generosity to help us celebrate what God is doing through our volunteers. Without each and every volunteer we would not be able to support families in crisis. We set out to build strong families and strengthen our community and you are vital to making that happen!

The Power of a Circle of Support

Our first conversation with Mr. Hunt was heartbreaking. He wept as he explained his situation. He was jobless, homeless, and alone while trying to raise his two children on his own. His mother, who had been helping, had recently passed. His life circumstances landed him in a place that was not good for himself or for his children. Mr. Hunt was desperate. He had no idea what to do next, however he knew that he wanted and needed to be a better father to his children. Thankfully, Mr. Hunt called Safe Families for Children.

Safe Families for Children immediately surrounded Mr. Hunt and his children with a Circle of Support. The encouragement he received motivated him to find employment, buy a car, and rent a place to live. The relationships he developed with our volunteers were life changing. He had a Family Coach that encouraged him and helped him navigate through things like getting before and aftercare in place for his children at school and how to juggle evening supper and homework. He had Family Friends with whom he attended church with and included him in men’s warrior events. Mr. Hunt even decided to give his life to Christ and got baptized. Another Family Friend opened their home on Sundays for him to do his laundry, and other Family Friends helped provide day hostings when school was out, and he had to work. One of his Host Families even opened their home to him while they were out of town for a week while he transitioned during a move. With financial support from Resource Friends along with a partner church, he was able to purchase a mobile home. His family is on a completely different path.

Mr. Hunt recently shared with our Safe Families Tampa team, “Safe Families for Children gave me hope. I didn’t know what I was going to do. Now my life looks completely different. This is the first time I’ve ever had anyone care about me and act like I was a real person. It feels so good to have someone to call to check on me or someone to tell me that I’m doing a good job. I wouldn’t know how to be a dad or even have my kids with me if it wasn’t for Safe Families.”

When Biblical Hospitality Starts with the Pastor - Safe Families for Children 01/10/2024

https://bit.ly/3tIoRQX This is a great read!

The God I see unpacked on the pages of scripture cares for the lost, hurting and vulnerable, that should impact the way the Church lives. We are so grateful for the pastors that are stepping up to rally their people to embrace biblical hospitality as a way of life.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

12/20/2023

It's not what is under the Christmas tree that matters most, it's who is around it. This year, make Christmas memories that aren't centered around gifts. Some ideas are decorating cookies, visiting a light show, playing in the snow together, visiting Santa at the mall, do a Christmas puzzle, have a family sleepover by the Christmas tree, read a Christmas book, fill out some of these free Christmas activities! https://kidsactivitiesblog.com/48938/free-christmas-printables/ Most importantly, teach the true spirit of Christmas to your kids!

"My journey with Safe Families started nearly three years ago when I was alone and afraid with one child and one on the way. I couldn’t believe that my life had gotten to this point, I was living in isolation and couldn’t comprehend that I literally had nowhere to go but the shelter. My life was a daily battle, struggling to be the mom I needed to be during a time when I was dealing with mental health issues. It didn’t seem like there was even room enough to come up for air, and then one day it was as if an angel appeared and introduced Safe Families into my life.

I was so scared and apprehensive at first because it was Christmas time, but I needed to prepare so that I could ensure the state would not intervene and take my children away. My Safe Families Host Family was nothing short of wonderful!"

In 2019, we said "yes" to hosting for the first time - a 3-year-old boy for a weekend or two a month for the summer to provide respite to his godmother. That little boy and his infant brother were met with crises for multiple caregivers, and even after their relationship with Safe Families ended we were able to be a kinship placement for them through CPS for almost 2 years. We would have never known them or their mom without Safe Families!
Those boys and their mom have since become like family. We've experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows through our relationship and God has been with us every step of the way. It's both the hardest and best thing I've been a part of. Praise God for how he can use a "yes"!

"After we welcomed two children to our family, we felt complete. However, we felt we had MORE to give and wanted our children to have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus's love.

That's where our adventure with Safe Families began. It has given us access to those in our community who could use the love and time we have to offer. We get a call, and we get to say YES!

We have had close to 15 hostings with the desire to continue on too many more. Even though there is an added busyness, an uptick in the chaos level, a stretching and a growing of love and patience we always come out of a hosting blessed, experiencing the peace that passes understanding, and feeling the grace that God bestows upon us."
