What’s KP?

Identified on the skin usually on the face, arms, thighs, cheeks 🍑 etc. Its rough goosebump like condition can make the skin appear red, pigmented, thick, feel itchy, dry and is accompanied by an extreme change in texture for the skin.

Although it’s a harmless condition it tends to be a growing concern within the industry. As our skin cycle turns over those prone to KP (slower cycles) start to develop small protein/ keratin plugs around the hair follicles on their body, often mistaking them as pimples. While there are a handful of debates on the causes of KP, we know there is a Vitamin A deficiency within these clients- abnormal exfoliating abilities (hyperkeratosis), reduced free water levels and impaired barrier function.

Although using clinical products such as retinol can be a very beneficial constant in your skincare routine- using them and coming in for treatments such as waxing, dermaplane, peels and light therapy can lead to undesired results and possibly injury to you 🚨🚩

This is because these medications have a tendency to thin the skin (increase cell turnover) and make the skin increasingly sensitive to treatments such as those listed above.

So to protect you and work towards the best outcomes, discontinuing the use of these products 1-2 weeks before and after a treatment will give your technician and your skin the best chance to reap the desired outcome.
