Glazed Greenware~Fired Once
Creative Director & Owner at Wayland Ventures Hello!
The Foraged Feather makes nourishing moments special and unique with handcrafted functional pottery. All pieces are made by me and my two hands. Slip casting is not utilized in this studio to ensure your wares are genuinely handmade. All processes are meant to be mindful of our resources. I recycle all clay and water, sourcing my clay from regional suppliers, using only food safe and nontoxic glaz

Progress pic.
I did this for a show, from a core memory.
It didn't get accepted.
I'm thinking, it's actually not done yet...
✨️The Wave✨️
Encaustic series of 3 in floating frames.
Not originally conceived as a series, but when editing for , these all fit together beautifully as a progression series.
Hope to see you next weekend!!
My new studio mug ✨️
I adopted it yesterday as I went through my pottery stores. I do one in-person pottery show a year in September, and I started preparing yesterday. Getting an idea of what I have, will it come with me, what gaps need filling, anything new I want to do this year?
In this process, I found I don't actually have a lot left from last year! It was a whirlwind weekend and one of my best shows ever!!
This cute mug was left all on its own, without an apparent place it fit within the collection of pots. I connect with this on a deep level and adopted it as my new studio mate/mug and inspiration for my next pottery collection, "Of Land and Lace," coming September 2023.
If you'd like a reminder, DM with your email, and I'll make sure to add you to my newsletter list!
Otherwise, just follow along, and I'm sure you'll see more the next few months as it comes to life ✨️
CERAMIC PASTA BOARDS
Gnocci is my all time favorite pasta and now I can make them allergen free with my own textured designs!
Both of these are available in my Gift Shop if you're into making homemade pasta or know someone who is and would enjoy a unique gift 🎁
Hanging wall vases. I only did a few of these to kinda experiment with wall hanging ceramics. I liked it!! And I love how these turned out!
They are water tight so you could use fresh buds as well as dried✨️
Avaliable in the Gift Shop linked in Bio.
I can't get over the connection between coral and crochet. Both emerge from a hyperbolic geometric pattern creating hyperbolic shapes which mathematicians long thought were impossible in reality.
What fascinates me the most is somewhere along the line, someone's hands intuitively mimicked a pattern present in Nature with yarn and a needle. I could be wrong, but I don't think it was an intentional geometric experiment. Likely in the name of beauty and expression did crochet emerge.
I first learned of this connection from the Crochet Coral Reef artwork "responding to climate change, an exercise in applied mathematics, and a wooly experiment in evolutionary theory".
When I use my lace imprinted pottery, I am always reminded of this connection; this relationship, and my nourishment holds more meaning, planting seeds of purpose.
Today is a big day. Today is the day I take a leap and act on all the reflection I've done the past two years and step into alignment with my passions and my dreams.
I started journaling two years ago on my birthday. Writing down my deepest fears and my deeepest desires. Setting intentions for the year ahead I wrote, "to bring into balance". 2020 held an outpouring of creative ideas and they are all documented through September 2022 as a period of transition. I am sure I will be referencing this journal for years to come!
In 2021 I wrote, "I see women entrepreneurs and so 'want that'; living CREATIVE lives and THRIVING". Searching for clarity, the theme of 2021 being a "perspective shift".
In April 2022 I wrote, "get centered, develop rhythm, seek clarity". Still seeking clarity I also set a goal of, "working as a professional artist by 2023".
For my birthday this year I started a new journal. One with an image symbolizing, for me, alignment. It's not 2023 yet, but I have decided to immerse myself in creating, designing, and making starting today. On my birthday this year I wrote, "letting go of what no longer serves me; starting fresh-NEW EXPERIENCE~clarity & ALIGNMENT"
The past two years have been a journey through fear, dissatisfaction, frustration, shame, HOPE & TRUST. I have creatives like .tormey who have all helped indirectly or directly guide me to this point. Thank you 💕
Furthermore, Thank You to my trusted confidants who have pushed and supported me during this time-you know who you are 💟 I love you.
After my pottery show this weekend I will be headed to Door County, WI to learn encaustic painting!! Encaustic painting has been on my heart for YEARS and I am sure I will be bringing you all some encaustic art in the near future ✨️ In addition, I am learning Illustrator (again), and bringing surface patterns to my husband and I's renovation and design company. I'm sure you'll see some of that around here too 💖
Can't wait for 2023 and the intentions I've set on becoming a Thriving Artist 🙏
Starting to set up my table !
The barn is and always will be my happy place ✨️ Childhood spent in the hay playing with baby kitties and building forts surrounded by the sweet smell of alfalfa. It is absolutely my dream to convert a barn into an art studio (insert barn emoji).
My daughter will also be there with me selling her felted bird ornaments. All proceeds will go to her Thriving Artist fund and support her future creative endeavors!
A little different style I've been exploring drizzling glaze 💙
Still inspired by water and organic forms 🌊
Come find me and these pots next weekend!!
Burner Bundles will be in stock for my next shop update!! Hoping for EIGHTEEN as long as they make it through the fire!!
I've got new thumbprint palettes in the works! They've been waiting patiently for quite awhile now. There's a few scheduled for an overglaze firing where I'm experimenting with bright gold overglaze accents. Super excited to see how they turn out 💛Should I add some of these prototypes to the gift shop?!
Working on a lot of behind the scenes stuff the past few weeks (marketing, retooling), watching the winter birds feast on seeds and nuts outside my window. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last year I was totally committed to cultivating my art practice. I had an idea of how it would look and my journey completely took me in another direction!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've been sooo creative the past year as Creative Director at Wayland Ventures. I've never had an opportunity to stretch in this way and I am so, so grateful that interior design is now a part of my creative process! LOVE IT!! I have no idea where it will take me, well actually, I am doing some surface design retooling this month which is directly influenced by interior design...this will be fun!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But really, my roots are as a studio artist, and my creative soul is thirsty for some studio art time! This is one of my first priorities for this year. I have set-up a Fall pottery show and am looking into Spring pottery show options currently. I am committing to making art daily and "creating before consuming" (thanks ). I will be sharing this daily practice with you all in my "Sketchbook" Stories.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Another layer to my creative journey I'll be sharing with you this year is my creative mindset. I've got so much work to do here!! So much unpacking, unlearning, and unblocking. Through "Art Quotes" Stories I'll be sharing some of the affirmations and inspirations I'm using to shift my mindset and gain clarity in my work.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thanks for being here! Looking forward to (another) fresh start!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
