Mental Illness is an ILLNESS. Never feel broken or beyound help. I promise you are not. And I promise more people care for you than you ever thought possible.
Well put, Uncle Nicky.
Today felt like it needed humor.
I have never been able to decide if me breaking down and crying over my job makes me really good at it or complete crap at it.
But to all my peeps know that I am always thinking of you, always worried for you, and I always love you. You give my life meaning in a way nothing else can.
So it’s been a few days but I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to post. So tonight I decided to just write about what I do and why I love it.
So to me, at its base being a therapist means getting to be what/who the other person needs:
▫️Sometimes my job is being a really good friend. The friend that you can rely on and talk with. That can make you laugh even on the worst day.
▫️Sometimes my job is to be a mom and love and support you even when you aren’t being your best self. That person that always wants to help you see what’s best for you.
▫️Sometimes I’m a coach. I teach the skills and help you practice them over and over until they are second nature.
▫️Sometimes I’m a cheerleader standing on the side lines watching you slay your challenges. Smiling and offering words of encouragement and praise.
▫️Sometimes I’m the big sibling handing out the tough love. Challenging your negative actions to reminding you of who you are and who you can be.
▫️Sometimes I’m the punching bag where you can let out all your anger and frustration and know no one will be hurt.
▫️And sometimes I’m just a sounding board for you to vent to and say all the things you need to say without stoping, without inturuption, and without worry about the other persons response may be.
I love each and everyone of these jobs. I love switching between them seamlessly. I love being what a person needs when they need it. I even love the terror I feel when I’m not sure who a person needs at that moment but knowing I can find it if I try.
Mostly I love you all so much for letting me be all versions of myself. So thank you for coming to me and trusting me to be who you need.
Growth is hard work and at times ugly, but it is always for the best.
I know life is hard but it is also precious and beautiful. Please reach out for help. Please never let go. Your pain can be healed, those around you never fully can.
“Discomfort is the start of the learning process.” - Phillips Soo
Heard this in “Hamilton: History Has It’s Eyes On You” it’s a perfect quote.
Learning means admitting there was something you didn’t know which is always uncomfortable. But when you lean into the discomfort not away from it education, growth, and knowledge bloom. Please feel the discomfort and learn from it not run from it.
We all see the world through a different lens. Do not forget that you do not get to tell someone how they feel.
Funny meme but a serious topic. Do not let someone make you feel guilty for letting them know they hurt you.
Also someone that threatens to leave you every time you call them out on their bad behavior so you are forced to beg them to stay is an abuser. And when they promise to change when you finally say you are done are not showing you love they are working to resume control.

So so so true.
I’ve had many students and supervisees along the way express the shame and fear that—because of their own mental illness and trauma—they would not be *fit* for becoming a therapist. The best, most skilled therapists I know are ones who had their own pain AND who sought help and treatment of some sort. Is it important to have done some healing to do this work? Yes. Otherwise, you risk harm (to yourself and to your clients). Does the healing ever end? No. Is the goal *perfect* healing? No (doesn’t exist).
Go to therapy. Take your meds. Do whatever your system needs to be *well enough* and then come join us. There are lotta people hurting. We need you.
Feeling the need for a lighter mood today. And for the record retail therapy should totally count. I can talk to you all day but I will never be as good as Legos, let's be real.
I promise its true.
Care about everyone. Stand up for those who’s need your voice. Realize your faults and work to correct them. But remember this is a sign of growth, not failure. None of us are perfect and that’s ok. We can all work to be and do better.
Todays motivational theme. We are in this together. You all make me better. We are never alone.
Todays motivational thought. Keep fighting the good fight and things will always work out in the end.

About This Page
Hey everyone. I have put together this page as a way to share inspiration quotes, light hearted jokes, and offer encouragement and resources to those who may need it. I am a Out Patient Clinician at a Non-profit and love what I do. I felt a page may be a good way to support clients outside of session but also provide help on a larger scale. Please know this page is NOT meant to replace counseling in any way and is just to be used as an additional resource.
