Newborn Dolphin Calf Watches Mom Swim Upside Down Chasing Fish :-)
This was taken this morning in St Petersburg, FL. The dolphin calf probably isn't even a couple days old.
Here's a few interesting dolphin facts you may not know...
Dolphin calves are about 42 inches at birth and weigh 22-40 lbs.
In the first couple days after birth the calves dorsal fin and tail are very flexible, not firm. (They're a little floppy :-) )
Calves are darker than adults and have light, vertical lines on their side.
Nursing only lasts 5-10 seconds and happens 3 to 8 times per hour.
To all the boaters out there, please think about this dolphin calf as your'e boating and slow down when you see dolphin. Don't just assume they can always get out of your way.
The drone used in the video has a telephoto lens enabling it to keep a safe distance from the wildlife and not disturb it. It also has low noise propellers. You could have a conversation with someone while the drone hovers 10 feet away and not have to raise your voice.
