Important Information from Director Christopher Kear

As Rockland County continues to be in the midst of the Canadian wild fires smoke plumes, please be aware that due to a stubborn weather pattern, the poor air quality will persist through tomorrow evening. Although not as intense, Rockland will still see unhealthy air quality due to smoke conditions Thursday into Thursday evening.

A strong low pressure system off the coast of Maine coupled with the jet stream in place has funneled the wild fire smoke from the north and north east into our areas. Currently, Canada is experiencing over 400 wild fires with 150 in Quebec alone. So far in 2023, Canada has experienced over 2200 wild fires and is heading into it’s worst fire season on record.

The poor air quality will exacerbate breathing issues for individuals with respiratory problems. Eyes, nose and throat can also be affected. Headaches may be common too. The best action is to remain indoors, limit travel, cancel outdoors activities and exercising and have patience until it clears. If you begin to have a medical condition as a result of the poor air quality, please do not hesitate and seek medical attention. Additional information can be acquired from the Department of Environmental Conservation hotline at 1-800-535-1345.

Thursday 4:32pm, the Central Nyack Fire Department was dispatched Mutual Aid to for a reported structure fire. when 22-3 got on scene, he transmitted the signal 12 with everyone out the house. 2-Tankers crew stretched the first line through the front door assisting valley cottage.

Today At 4:37pm, the Central Nyack Fire Department along with TarryTown FD got dispatched to an vehicle fire on the Tappen Zee Bridge SB. when units got on scene, we had an confirmed vehicle fire. fire was quickly extinguished and all units cleared scene

As first units arrived on scene, they were trying to find best access up the hill. over 3 acres was burning at the time. Want to thank all the mutual aid that came out to help us!

Saturday 10/8/22, the officers and members went to the Inspection Parade in Nyack. Want to Congratulate them on bringing home 1st Place Pumper Trophy!! Great Job guys!!!
