We were blessed to have in-laws that we love and who love us in return. In working through our divorce, we've spent a lot of time working on maintaining a relationship between our families.

As strange as it appears, we are still invited to vacations, family dinners, holiday celebrations, and we include everyone in celebrating major life events together.

Divorce could have been ugly. While it's been challenging, our families have all showed up for us through the process and helped bring us through in a loving way.

Grateful for the inlaws!

Growing up I was enchanted with the concept of Love at first sight.

The idea that the person you were meant to be with would see you and be struck was so incredibly romantic and fulfilling.

For a long time, I wanted that.

If I'm being honest, I wanted someone who would see me and be taken aback by my appearance. To be so intrigued they wanted only to talk to me, while the rest of the world melted away.

I have thought of so many scenarios in my head, each one slightly different, but always the same concept.

Until recently.

What changed? I realized I don't want a man to fall in love with me based on my looks.

I want him to fall in love with my character. To fall in love with the things in this world that are steadfast and unchanging. My heart, my love of God, my deep passion to help and serve others.

My looks will change as I grow older. Our bodies are fleeting and slowly dying, preparing to one day turn back into dust.

If I want a relationship that is God-honoring, that has a firm foundation, that is blessed by Christ - well then love at first sight doesn't work. I want a slow love. I want a love that grows and develops over time. I want a love so deep that it lives on for decades. That, is truly, romantically the kind of love I want.

One of the beautiful things about divorcing is that she is free to operate in ways that are so enriching to our children and help fulfill her calling of inviting all the people into her home.

While a party with more than my 4 children would never miraculously appear at MY place of residence…my boys get a DIFFERENT type of enriching environment. One of stillness and peace.
