Old Grad Advice #usmalibrary

One of our librarians, Jennifer Chess, watched cadets display excellent character on R-Day. We’re so proud of our cadets! #usmalibrary #usma2027

Breathe in… one. Cadet candidates and parents, you’ve got this! 💪 Video clip from the USMA Library Archives & Special Collections. R-Day 1997. The advice is just as relevant today as it was then. Take one day at a time.

We were so excited to meet the SLE students this week and get to show them our exceptional Archives and Special Collections materials. Getting to touch and inspect maps drawn by cadets and read letters written by them was both interesting and inspiring. We hope we get to see you next year!

Last week, library staff Doug Litts and Corey Flatt attended CivMX 2023. During CivMX (Civilian-Military Training Experience), Doug and Corey got to experience what CFT is like for a cadet and how West Point instills character in its cadets. On their last day, Doug and Corey got to do the Water Confidence Course, and they did an excellent job! In their words: “During the three day (and two night) immersive experience, we learned about and lived Army values. We developed leadership skills through teamwork, camaraderie, and valuable field exercises. CivMX was both rewarding and challenging; we encourage anyone who seeks to better understand cadet life AND is also willing to push themselves to new limits to consider signing up next year!”

The USMA Library was pleased to host @westpoint_systems today in support of the 2023 West Point Projects Day Research Symposium. This annual event always leaves us in awe of all the amazing work that our cadets do. Many of our librarians work with cadets to help them with the background research necessary for their projects, and we had a blast getting to see them present today. #usmalibrary #projectsday

Happy National Library Week! We LOVE our cadets, faculty, and staff. Here are just some of the things we’ve done this year to support them- teaching, reference, programs, exhibits, and more!

Tonight is the Evening at the Haig! Come watch or participate in the open mic or poetry slam competition tonight. It starts at 1900 in the Haig Room, 6th for Jefferson Hall. All classes have been approved to wear civvies to Evening at the Haig. We’ll see you there!

This Friday is our Evening at the Haig Open Mic & Poetry Slam Competition. CDT Belong is one of our special guest judges for the poetry slam competition. Come and watch your fellow cadets perform, and consider performing yourself. We hope to see you there! #usmalibrary #usmalibraryprograms #eveningatthehaig

Are you still thinking about performing at our open mic and poetry slam event next Friday? CDT Haefner is here to explain the 2 different options available. During the open mic portion, you can perform anything spoken word. This could be reading a poem, reciting a monologue, rapping, singing, or any other expression of the spoken word. It can be an original piece or performing someone else’s written work. The poetry slam will be judged by a panel of guest judges and must be original work. We hope to see you there, whether you’re performing or supporting your fellow cadets! #usmalibrary #usmalibraryprograms #poetryslam

Have you had a chance to check out the current exhibit- Foundations: Black Experiences of West Point? GEN(R) Lloyd Austin's experiences at West Point, along with others, are part of the exhibit.
