Josie has been a tremendous blessing to our team as a manager the last two years. She has done a great job recording matches, keeping stats, and training other managers. She was even willing to get out and practice with some of our girls when they needed a partner. Congratulations, Josie!

Congratulations Class of 2024! Josie came to SCLA as a 6th grader from Kaposia Elementary (South St. Paul). She's been involved in SCLA Wrestling (manager), Drama Club, Theater, Night to Shine, Homeroom Leaders, and Mentor-Mentees.

Elijah had never wrestled until coming to SCLA. After wrestling JV as a sophomore, he earned 54 varsity wins the last two years with 26 of them coming by pin. This year, he qualified for the Class AA State Tournament, becoming the 10th Crusader overall in history to qualify for state. Congratulations, Elijah!

Congratulations Class of 2024! Elijah came to SCLA as a sophomore from Rochester Victory Christian Academy. He is involved in SCLA Wrestling.

Eli wrestled in middle school for South St. Paul. He returned to the sport after two years away last year as a junior when he came to SCLA. He earned two varsity pins this year, including one in 12 seconds, and was an important member of our roster. He also dropped from 215 to 172 over the last year by hard work. Congratulations, Eli!

Congratulations Class of 2024! Eli came to SCLA as a senior from Orlando, Florida . He is involved in SCLA Bowling, Wrestling, and Lacrosse .

Grace began with Crusader Wrestling as a manager her junior year. She decided to wrestle this year for the first time. She had a great season, winning five varsity matches, three exhibitions, and taking fifth in sections. God's blessings on your future, Grace!

Congratulations Class of 2024! Grace came to SCLA as a freshman from Christ Lutheran, North St. Paul. She is involved in SCLA Croixaliers, Night To Shine, Choir, Homeroom Leader, NHS, Drama Club, Theatre, Mission Trip, Chapel Band, Softball, Basketball, Wrestling, Tennis, and as an Ambassador.

Boys' Wrestler at State 2024 Elijah Matzke State-Bound in Wrestling, Reaches Pin Milestone Congratulations to Elijah Matzke on placing second at the Section 4AA Boys' Individual Tournament to advance to the MSHSL Boys' State Tour

January went by very quickly and we are already at the end of February! A quick recap from the last few weeks: We had three more Crusaders earn milestones, as Amelia Converse and Jack Anderson each picked up their 25th career pin, while Elijah Matzke got his 50th career win at home on Grade School Night.

The girls represented SCLA well at the Sections 2 and 4 tournament two weeks ago:

Last weekend, the Crusaders lost a tough dual to Harding in the preliminary round of the Section 4AA Team Tournament, 45-30. Pins were earned by Jack, Amelia, Elijah, and Charlie Berg.

This Saturday, the Crusader boys head to Cretin-Derham Hall for the Section 4AA Individual Tournament! The top two wrestlers in each weight class go on to the state tournament at the Xcel Center on March 1! Wrestling begins at 9:00 a.m.

It's been a busy few weeks for the Crusaders. The girls represented SCLA well at the Hopkins Athena Invitational in December, tying for 20th place out of 50 teams on December 16! The Crusaders made their first out-of-state appearance in four years, taking 11th place in the Wisconsin Lutheran High School Viking Invitational this past Saturday. Our 114-pounder took 2nd. Jack Anderson and Elijah Matzke took 3rd and Tessa Richter, Peter Singewald, Charlie Berg, and George Kuncl took 6th.

The Crusaders took on North Branch and Mahtomedi last night. George Kuncl earned two varsity pins. Also earning varsity pins were our 114-pounder, Jack Anderson, and Peter Singewald. Peter also won by decision. Trinity Lorenz scored two pins in girls' matches. Tessa Richter, Grace Lassonde, and Aya Yakota (wrestling her very first match) all got pins as well against girls.

The Crusader girls head to Hopkins tomorrow for the Hopkins Athena Girls' Invitational! Approximately 51 schools from MN and WI will be participating with an estimated 300 girls competing!

The Crusaders had a tough couple of duals last night, against Central Public Schools (Norwood Young America) and Rockford. But pins were earned by Elijah Matzke, George Kuncl, and our 114-pounder!

Tomorrow, the Crusaders head to Maple Grove for the Crimson Invite!

The Crusaders kicked off the 2023-'24 season tonight with two dual wins on the road! They won 36-33 over Champlin Park and then 46-24 over BC-CA. Elijah Matzke scored two pins, and George Kuncl and Ty Johnson each got one. (Ty was wrestling for the first time ever tonight.) In exhibition matches, Trinity Lorenz picked up two pins in her first-ever matches. Amelia Converse, Coen Vilski, Max Mildebrandt, and Charlie Berg also picked up exhibition pins!

Saturday, the Crusaders head to Edina High School for the Edina Invitational! Action begins at 10 a.m.!

EASTVIEW RECAP: A good field of wrestlers showed up at Eastview on Saturday to develop their freestyle skills in the first tournament of the year. 373 competitors in total with 190 in the Junior and 16U age groups.
Tucker McLennan from Pinnacle Wrestling Club had the most falls with 3 in a time of 3:20. Hunter Houle from Grynd Wrestling had a combination of 4 falls and tech. falls in a total time of 2:44. Gavin Bicott had the most single match points with 22, followed by Adam Her, Lightning Whiterabbit, and Edon Davis who put 20 in one match.
It was great to see a good group of wrestlers come out and have some fun with freestyle. Take a look at the wrestling options coming up this weekend. Pre-registration is required.

The Crusader ladies competed in the Athena Invitational held at Hopkins High School. This was the first-ever girls-only event in which SCLA has competed. Amelia Converse took him second, earning two pins that day, and Rebecca Mukanda took him fourth, with her first wins of the season: one pin and one decision.

The Crusaders have kept busy with practices over break. We look forward to having the whole team back together next week and getting back on the mat for more matches in January. Hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and that you have a safe New Year!

The 2022-'23 wrestling season is underway! The Crusaders started off the season this past Saturday at the Edina tournament. Four girls wrestled for our program for the first time in history, with Amelia Converse winning her first match. Several JV boys got victories, including first-place finishes for Jack Anderson and Elijah Matzke!
