It’s our Thursday night ritual when we are vending at Valley Junction Farmers Market to visit Nan's Nummies Cookie Shoppe (see behind me) and get their YUMMY crème brûlée truffles (in my hands)! They are out of this world good! They are so popular that they have been out the past few weeks…. But they had some last night!! 🙂

The family that runs Nan’s is the sweetest most customer friendly family and their employees are just as delightful and helpful!

I desperately needed to do something else besides footballs! SO MANY FOOTBALLS!!! 😅

I haven't had a chance to upload yet! Our wonderful regular customers have ordered SO MANY already I had to make a whole other batch to decorate today!

Have you seen the viral CROOKIE?
For those of you that have not, I'll try to explain it without drooling all over my phone...
It is a Croissant stuffed with our signature soft chocolate chip cookie dough. Topped with MORE cookie dough and baked until golden brown. Crowned with a generous drizzle of semi sweet chocolate.

The husband is not a croissant fan at all, but he throughly enjoyed it after being my taste tester and actually asked for another one the other day!

These will be rolling out TONIGHT at the Valley Junction farmers market for a limited time only! They will be available after 5pm!
Just making a dozen for now, but will be adding more if they go well!

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce our new store rule.

Due to some recent events with children in the area being menaces, (stealing, creating chaos and making loud scenes that are disruptive to our wonderful customers) we are making a rule that children need to be accompanied by an adult in order to come into the store.
This breaks my heart to have to implement this rule, as a fun bakery and candy shop should be available to all ages at all times, it is necessary at this time until the riff raff stops. I am hoping now that school is in session, these sorts of activities will stop.

We unfortunately had an incident in that store yesterday where three young boys came in and were shoving things in their pockets and treating my wonderful Sunday employee horribly. They came back trying to return things that they stole later. Another business close to us saw them trying to get into the doors of shops that were closed as well.
If you had a child stop into the store yesterday around 11:44am, we would love to chat with you and let you know what occurred.
Unfortunately this is not the first time these kids have been around and they are just 3 of MANY over the summer. We had a group of kids during the farmers market on Thursday exhibiting the same behavior.

I am hoping this rule will not be needed for long, but for now, unfortunately it is required. :(

Kind of a different post for a bakery, but I REALLY wanted to share this businesses information.
I called this gentleman for a quote to clean our windows. He was incredibly nice through discussions and was able to squeeze us in the very next morning.
Let me tell you.... our windows have NEVER been so clean. He took his time and did the most thorough job I have ever seen. This man stood there scraping off decades old tape that I haven't even been able to get off! He had to leave for a bit for a personal reason, but came back immediately and finished up the job. He even went BACK through and touched up spots that were made before he was even done. His pricing is incredible also!!

Introducing our new full time front counter lady! My oldest daughter Brooke will be taking the helm and working the front most of the time.
She has worked at the shop for over 2 years, training initially under Nan herself. If you are a regular, you would have seen her during the Farmers Markets and on the weekends. She's super excited to help our wonderful customers full time! She got to celebrate her first full day with an interview from KCCI. They they came to interview us this morning about the break in and got a few shots of her helping customers :)

After the heartbreaking morning that left us reeling, I feel like it's time to post something fun.

Good morning all.

This morning just before 4 AM we were burglarized. Money was taken. So far, that appears to be the extent of the theft. All our employees are safe.

This is unfortunate and frustrating as we sacrifice so much as a family to pour into this business and provide for our Customers.

We are working with the West Des Moines Police Department to investigate and they have been extremely helpful regarding this incident.

Our business remains open during normal business hours. Our family and employees ask for your patience at this time as we are all a bit stressed out and processing through what happened.

The thieves were wearing face coverings and gloves. Here is a picture of the burglary in progress below.

This includes preparing doughs, baking cookies and pastries, managing inventory, and ensuring consistent quality and freshness. You must possess strong leadership qualities, be capable of working independently, and have a keen eye for detail.

Responsibilities:
Manage the daily operations of the bakery, including ingredient preparation, baking, and finishing products.
Ensure that all baked items meet quality standards and are presented attractively.
Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed to maintain production efficiency.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace in accordance with food safety standards.
Adhere to all health and safety regulations and ensure that staff follow proper procedures.
Answer phone calls and help customers when the front counter is busy.
Position begins at $17/hr and goes up from there depending on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of baking techniques, including dough preparation, shaping, and baking.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication and leadership abilities.
Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs and stand for extended periods.

This will be Kolin’s last week as our Full Time front counter man! He is heading off to college for mechanics at DMACC! Kolin started at Nans Nummies last September with this being his first job. He caught on pretty quick and became a VERY important part of our team.
While we are sad to no long see his smiling face every day, this is definitely not the last time we will see him! He will still work for Nans Nummies on Fridays and in the evenings during our busy season!
Be sure to stop in this week and congratulate him on his next big adventure!

SEASONAL EVENING or NIGHT TIME BAKER:
Hours are flexible for the right candidate. Responsibilities are making sugar cookie cut outs using our dough press machine (no manual rolling) 2-3 times a week, days flexible. Cleaning after duties are completed. Late October-end of December only!

Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of baking techniques, including dough preparation, shaping, and baking.
